TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE TV Series In Works From JT Mollner, Glen Powell & Roy Lee

"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is the latest franchise getting turned into a TV series after A24 secured the television and film rights after a months-long bidding war. The show hails from "Strange Darling" filmmaker JT Mollner, who also executive produces alongside Spooky Picture's Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, Stuart Manashil, ImageNation's Ben Ross, and Barnstorm's Glen Powell and Dan Cohen. Exurbia Films is the primary production company, with Pat Cassidy, Ian Henkel and Kim Henkel as producers.

There is also a movie currently in early stages of development from the same producing team and ImageNation, but Mollner is not attached to that project. Previous reports indicated the the film is headed to Netflix, but nothing has been announced officially.

The auction for "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was administered by Verve and drew the interest of several studios and high-level creative teams including Oz Perkins, Jordan Peele and Taylor Sheridan. Verve has repped rights to the slasher franchise since 2017.

Nollner said in a statement: "I've said publicly that I'm not interested in remaking perfect films, and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a perfect film. Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel created something bold, transgressive and truly seminal that holds up even today as the gold standard for horror. When the opportunity for a longform exploration into this world arose, I saw it as a fresh way in, as well as a way to honor the existing folklore. I can't imagine better partners for this approach than A24. This is truly an honor."

Powell added: "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorite films. It defined a generation of horror films and over half a century after its release, it remains one of the definitive movies of my home state. I'm honored to have Barnstorm help bring in a new chapter for such an iconic title and franchise. With a marquee home in A24 and visionary filmmaker with JT Mollner, alongside our top shelf producing partners, I couldn't have dreamed of a better team for such a dream property."

Henkel said: "It was a difficult decision, but A24's embrace of boundary-testing genre film, and its record of working with artists who are inclined to test boundaries made them a compelling choice. Plus, we believe having a great creative and producing team — JT Mollner, Roy Lee, Dan Cohen and Glen Powell — in place gives us the best shot at a series that could be genuinely eye-opening and unexpected. There's an epic tale lurking in the Chainsaw backstory."

THE TOMMYKNOCKERS Movie in the Works from James Wan and Roy Lee

Although Stephen King is probably the most adapted living author of all time, after the huge success of last year's "It", which grossed over $700 million worldwide, King's books are more sought-after than they ever were. As a result, the author's "The Tommyknockers" might be next on Hollywood's to-do list. The book was previously adapted into a 1993 TV miniseries starring Jimmy Smits and Marg Helgenberger. Another TV adaptation was in the works at NBC a few years ago, but nothing came of it.

"The Conjuring" director James Wan, and Roy Lee, one of the producers of "It", have teamed up to to bring the sci-fi horror novel to the big screen. They have also joined forces with veteran producer Larry Sanitsky, who executive produced the 1993 miniseries and holds the screen rights to the property, and are currently shopping the project around to studios and streaming networks, including Netflix. The project's mission statement written by Sanitsky reads as follows:

"It is an allegorical tale of addiction (Stephen was struggling with his own at the time), the threat of nuclear power, the danger of mass hysteria and the absurdity of technical evolution run amuck. All are as relevant today as the day the novel was written. It is also a tale about the eternal power of love and the grace of redemption."

And for those of you who aren't familiar with King's book, here's the official synopsis:

"Something was happening in Bobbi Anderson’s idyllic small town of Haven, Maine. Something that gave every man, woman, and child in Haven powers far beyond those of ordinary mortals. Something that turned the town into a deathtrap for all outsiders. Something that is buried in the woods behind Bobbi’s house. With the help of her friend, Jim Gardener, they uncover an alien spaceship. And as they learn more about this strange discovery, the citizens of Haven begin to change: The townspeople are being welded into one organic, homicidal, and fearsomely brilliant entity in thrall to the Tommyknockers, who piloted the alien ship."

Channing Tatum to Star in THE FOREVER WAR Adaptation

Channing Tatum has joined the cast of the sci-fi epic "The Forever War", based on Joe Haldeman's classic book which tells the story of soldiers fighting an interstellar war between humans and the Taurans.

The protagonist is a physics student, William Mandella, who joins an elite task force to fight against the alien species. As the war goes one, William stays young as he travels through space while life on Earth progresses over centuries and humanity becomes a new, collective species called "itself Man" which has eliminated heterosexuality and is speaking a new language.

The film was the subject of a bidding war between Warner Bros. and Sony, but it was ultimately the former that landed the project. The screenplay has been written by Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus"). Ridley Scott was previously attached to direct the film in 2008, after waiting 25 years for the rights to become available, but ultimately left the project which is now being produced by ILM special effects veteran Richard Edlund alongside Channing Tatum and Roy Lee. Edlund has been holding on to the rights to the book since the 1970s.
