"Civil War" and
"Warfare" filmmaker
Alex Garland is set to write and direct a live-action adaptation of the hit video game
"Elden Ring" for A24 and video game company Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.
Peter Rice is set to produce alongside
Andrew Macdonald and
Allon Reich from DNA, as well as
George R. R. Martin and
Vince Gerardis.
"Elden Ring" is an action RPG set in an authentic dark fantasy world, which allows players to head off on adventures within vast environments and dungeons. Created under the guidance of FromSoftware's
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game is based on a story written by Martin, author of the fantasy novel series,
"A Song of Ice and Fire", which was adapted into HBO's
"Game of Thrones".
The game has sold over 30 million copies worldwide since its release on February 25, 2022. A spin-off video game titled
"Elden Ring Nightreign", was released worldwide on Friday, May 30.
Garland has collaborated with A24 on four of his five directorial projects:
"Ex Machina",
"Men",
"Civil War" and
"Warfare". His sci-fi thriller
"Annihilation" was distributed by Paramount. Garland has been working as a writer and producer on multiple films in a new
"28 Years Later" zombie trilogy for Sony. The first installment directed by
Danny Boyle opens in theaters on June 20.
DNA’s relationship with Garland dates back to
"28 Days Later" (2002), for which he wrote the screenplay. Rice joined that company in producing the upcoming
"28 Years Later".
