Directed by "Zombieland" and "Gangster Squad" helmer Ruben Fleischer, the Spider-Man spinoff "Venom" stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist who accidentally becomes the host of an alien symbiote that gives him a violent super alter-ego: Venom. The film also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott and Michelle Lee.
"Venom" opened in theaters on October 5, 2018 and received mostly negative reviews from critics. While Hardy's performance was praised and considered a highlight, the film's script and scattershot tone were harshly criticized. The film is poised to be a hit at the box-office, with pundits estimating a $60 million debut from 4,250 theaters.
