Final Destination Bloodlines Helmers To Direct Animated Venom Movie

"Final Destination Bloodlines" directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are attached to direct Sony Pictures Animation's upcoming animated "Venom" movie. No plot details have been revealed, and there's no writer attached, but the studio is opening up a writers room to develop the script.

Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Kelly Marcel, who worked on the "Venom" movies, will return as producers. Tom Hardy, who played Eddie Brock in the live-action trilogy will also produce.

The character was created by writer David Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane, and first appeared in the comics in 1988’s "Amazing Spider-Man" No. 300. On the big screen, Venom first appeared in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3". Later, the character became the star of his own cinematic franchise with Ruben Fleischer's 2018 film, which grossed $856 million worldwide. It was followed by "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" in 2021 ($506.8 nmillion) and "Venom: The Last Dance" in 2024 ($478.9 million).

Lipovsky and Stein broke out last year with "Final Destination Bloodlines" which grossed $317 million worldwide. They are also attached to co-write a new "Gremlins" movie alongside Chris Columbus, as well as direct Sony's sci-fi film "The Earthling" based on Jonathan Marty's short story, Unniversal's psychological thriller "Long Lost", and Paramount's sci-fi drama "The Traveler".

Weekend Box Office Venom 3 Here

"Venom: The Last Dance" still dominates the box-office after a solid second frame drop. It was a relatively quiet pre-election weekend, with only one new wide release, Robert Zemeckis' "Here", which unfortunately could not find an audience.

Weekend Box Office Venom The Last Dance

"Venom: The Last Dance", the third and final installment in the comic book trilogy, fell short of expectations but still opened at the top of the box office. Meanwhile, the Vatican thriller "Conclave" scored a decent debut. Overall, the box-office was down from last year for a third consecutive frame, and a lot of the blame lies with DC's "Joker: Folie A Deux" which has already exited the Top 10 after three weeks in theaters.

New on Blu-ray: VENOM aka THE LEGEND OF SPIDER FOREST (1971) - Horror

Product Description: A demented grab-bag of sinister cinematic tropes set in the picturesque Bavarian countryside, Venom (1971, aka The Legend of Spider Forest) spins a wicked web complete with a winsome seductress (Neda Arneric) who lures curious young men to a nasty death, all in the shadow of a Nazi-styled scientist (Terence Soall) aiming to craft an arachnid-derived nerve drug. Meanwhile, an unsavory brood of conspiratorial locals is keen on maintaining the mythos of the lethal "spider goddess," while an undaunted artist (Simon Brent) perilously investigates. Director Peter Sykes here takes a first evocative leap into screen horror that would bear more frightful fruit with the later Hammer Studios productions Demons of the Mind (1972) and To the Devil...a Daughter (1976).

Naomie Harris in Talks for VENOM 2 Villain Shriek
Oscar nominated actress Naomie Harris ("Skyfall", "Moonlight") is in talks to star as Spider-Man villain Shriek in Sony's upcoming "Venom" sequel. The film will be directed by Andy Serkis ("Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle", "Breathe") from a script by Kelly Marcel ("Saving Mr. Banks", "Fifty Shades of Grey").

Tom Hardy will reprise the role of the titular anti-hero, who in the sequel will go up against Carnage (Woody Harrelson). The villain will probably join forces with Shriek, who in the comics is a romantic interest for Carnage. Harrelson had a short cameo in the first film. Michelle Williams is also back as Anne Weying.

The film will be produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker. The release date has been set for October 2, 2020.

Harris can next be seen in the cop thriller "Black and Blue", and has recently finished work on the next James Bond film "No Time to Die". She is also set to star in the drama series "The Third Day" opposite Jude Law.

The new wave of releases, which included the Neil Armstrong biopic "First Man" and the Halloween family adventure "Goosebumps 2", was not enough to take down "Venom" and "A Star is Born". Last week's #1 and #2 films continue to perform well, better than expected, actually, and dominate the box-office for a second consecutive weekend.

in-theaters-venom-a-star-is-born-the-hate-u-give-loving-pablo

The Spider-Man spinoff "Venom" starring Tom Hardy is now in theaters, and it seems to be one of those divisive blockbusters. Critics savagely mauled it, but moviegoers seem a bit more forgiving. For example, Rotten Tomatoes has a 28% Critical Score, while the Audience Score is an impressive 89%. It's like "The Last Jedi" in reverse. Regardless, the movie is poised to be a huge hit at the box-office after scoring a record-breaking $10 million from Thursday night previews.

Another new releases is the musical romantic drama "A Star is Born", starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Cooper also directed and co-wrote the script. The film is the third remake of the 1937 film of the same name which starred Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. The other remakes were a 1954 musical starring Judy Garland and James Mason, which was nominated for 6 Oscars, and the 1976 film starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, which is probably more famous for Streisand's Oscar-winning song "Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star Is Born)".

Also out in theaters today is the young adult adaptation "The Hate U Give", based on the novel of the same name by Angie Thomas. The film stars Amandla Stenberg, Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby and K.J. Apa.

In limited release you can scratch that "Narcos" itch with the crime biopic "Loving Pablo", which chronicles the volatile love affair between Pablo Escobar (Javier Bardem) and journalist Virginia Vallejo (Penelope Cruz). It didn't receive much love from critics, but if you can't get enough of stories about Escobar, I suppose this will do the trick.
