stan-and-ollie-2018-new-on-dvd-and-blu-ray

Product Description: Laurel & Hardy, one of the world’s great comedy teams, set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Diminished by age and with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain future. As the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they re-connect with their adoring fans.

The tour becomes a hit, but Stan & Ollie can’t quite shake the specter of Laurel and Hardy’s past; the long-buried ghosts, coupled with Oliver’s failing health, start to threaten their precious partnership. A portrait of the most tender and poignant of creative marriages, they are aware that they may be approaching their swan song, trying to rediscover just how much they mean to each other.

"Stan & Ollie" is a biopic directed by Jon S. Baird ("Filth") from a screenplay by Academy Award-nominted writer Jeff Pope ("Philomena"). The film is based on the later years of the lives of legendary comedy duo Laurel and Hardy, played by Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, and it focuses on their grueling variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Shirley Henderson, Danny Huston, Nina Arianda and Rufus Jones co-star.

"Stan & Ollie" opened in limited release in theaters on December 28, 2018 in the U.S., followed by its debut in the U.K. on January 11, 2019. John C. Reilly was nominated at the 76th Golden Globe Awards for his performance, and the film also received three BAFTA nominations, including Best British Film.

Two new wide releases have joined the busy Christmas race at the box-office. The first is the comedy "Holmes & Watson" starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, which has some of the weakest reviews of any film this year. Both critics and moviegoers pretty much hate this one, and while the film managed to rake in $6.4 million on Christmas Day, its prospects for the weekend aren't good.

The other new wide release is Adam McKay's awards contender "Vice", a satirical biopic starring Christian Bale as Dick Cheney. The film managed to divide critics and audiences, so it might not bring in as much money as McKay's "The Big Short", despite earning six Golden Globe nominations. The film opened with $4.8 million on Christmas Day.

In limited release it might be worth checking out the crime drama "Destroyer" which earned Nicole Kidman a Golden Globe nomination, and the biopic "Stan & Ollie", for which John C. Reilly received a Golden Globe nod.
