oscars-2019-the-favourite-roma

The Oscar nominations are finally here and we now have the complete list for all 24 categories of the 91st Academy Awards. The nominations were announced by Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross on Tuesday morning.

The eight movies nominated for Best Picture include "Black Panther", "BlacKkKlansman", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "The Favourite", "Green Book", "Roma", "A Star is Born" and "Vice". The most nominated films are "The Favourite" and "Roma" with 10 nods apiece, followed by "A Star is Born", "Vice" and "Black Panther" with eight each.

The winners of the 91st Annual Academy Awards will be announced live on Sunday, February 24th, at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on ABC. And, from the looks of it, the Oscars will probably not have a host, for the first time ever.

The nominations for the 2019 Directors Guild awards have been announced. "A Star is Born" and "BlacKkKlansman" have strengthened their positions in the Oscar race with top nods from all guilds: DGA, WGA, PGA and SAG. The former scored two DGA nominations for Bradley Cooper, who also received a first-time director nod, while the latter scored filmmaker Spike Lee his first-ever DGA nomination.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was left out, most likely due to the behind-the-scenes troubles that led to Bryan Singer being replaced by Dexter Fletcher before production wrapped. Other nominees include "Roma", "Green Book" and "Vice".

The small-screen nominees include "The Americans", "Atlanta", "Ozark", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "Barry", "Who is America?", "Escape at Dannemora" and "The Handmaid's Tale".

/weekend-box-office-aquaman-tops-charts-second-weekend

Not surprisingly, "Aquaman" is still the top movie at the box-office in the last weekend of 2018, while "Mary Poppins" and "Bumblebee" continue to perform well. New releases "Vice" and "Holmes and Watson" failed to make much of an impact against such tough competition.

Written and directed by Adam McKay ("The Big Short"), the satirical biopic "Vice" tells the story of Dick Cheney, played by Christian Bale, a bureaucratic Washington insider who became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush (Sam Rockwell). The film also stars Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Alison Pill, Lily Rabe, Tyler Perry, Jesse Plemons, Justin Kirk, Shea Whigham, Eddie Marsan and LisaGay Hamilton.

"Vice" is nominated for six Golden Globe awards, including Best Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy, Screenplay and Director. Bale, Adams and Rockwell also received nominations for their performances.

"Vice" opened in theaters on December 25, 2018 and received a polarizing critical reception, although the performances received unanimous praise. The film grossed a total of $17.7 million, so far, becoming Annapurna's highest grossing domestic release of all-time after just six days in theaters.

in-theaters-holmes-and-watson-vice-destroyer-stan-and-ollie

Two new wide releases have joined the busy Christmas race at the box-office. The first is the comedy "Holmes & Watson" starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, which has some of the weakest reviews of any film this year. Both critics and moviegoers pretty much hate this one, and while the film managed to rake in $6.4 million on Christmas Day, its prospects for the weekend aren't good.

The other new wide release is Adam McKay's awards contender "Vice", a satirical biopic starring Christian Bale as Dick Cheney. The film managed to divide critics and audiences, so it might not bring in as much money as McKay's "The Big Short", despite earning six Golden Globe nominations. The film opened with $4.8 million on Christmas Day.

In limited release it might be worth checking out the crime drama "Destroyer" which earned Nicole Kidman a Golden Globe nomination, and the biopic "Stan & Ollie", for which John C. Reilly received a Golden Globe nod.

Golden Globes 2019 Sandra Oh Andy Samberg

The nominations for the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced. Leading the pack is Adam McKay's satirical Dick Cheney biopic "Vice" with a total of six nominations, including Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) and Best Actor (Musical/Comedy) for Christian Bale's transformative performance.

Close behind are "A Star is Born", "The Favourite" and "Green Book" with five nods each. A bigger surprise, however, is that Marvel's "Black Panther" received three nominations, including Best Picture (Drama). But let's not forget this is the Hollywood Foreign Press Association we're talking about, the same group of people who decided that "Avatar" was the Best Picture of 2010.

In the television categories, "The Assassination of Gianni Versace" leads with four nominations. The HFPA also awarded "Barry", "The Kominsky Method", "Homecoming", "Sharp Objects", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and "A Very English Scandal" with three nods apiece.

The 2019 Golden Globe awards winners will be announced on January 6, 2019 in a ceremony hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg.
