dga-2019-nominations-a-star-is-born-blackkklansman

The nominations for the 2019 Directors Guild awards have been announced. "A Star is Born" and "BlacKkKlansman" have strengthened their positions in the Oscar race with top nods from all guilds: DGA, WGA, PGA and SAG. The former scored two DGA nominations for Bradley Cooper, who also received a first-time director nod, while the latter scored filmmaker Spike Lee his first-ever DGA nomination.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was left out, most likely due to the behind-the-scenes troubles that led to Bryan Singer being replaced by Dexter Fletcher before production wrapped. Other nominees include "Roma", "Green Book" and "Vice".

The small-screen nominees include "The Americans", "Atlanta", "Ozark", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "Barry", "Who is America?", "Escape at Dannemora" and "The Handmaid's Tale".

Golden Globes 2019 Sandra Oh Andy Samberg

The nominations for the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced. Leading the pack is Adam McKay's satirical Dick Cheney biopic "Vice" with a total of six nominations, including Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) and Best Actor (Musical/Comedy) for Christian Bale's transformative performance.

Close behind are "A Star is Born", "The Favourite" and "Green Book" with five nods each. A bigger surprise, however, is that Marvel's "Black Panther" received three nominations, including Best Picture (Drama). But let's not forget this is the Hollywood Foreign Press Association we're talking about, the same group of people who decided that "Avatar" was the Best Picture of 2010.

In the television categories, "The Assassination of Gianni Versace" leads with four nominations. The HFPA also awarded "Barry", "The Kominsky Method", "Homecoming", "Sharp Objects", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and "A Very English Scandal" with three nods apiece.

The 2019 Golden Globe awards winners will be announced on January 6, 2019 in a ceremony hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg.
