New on DVD and Blu-ray: May 2, 2017

The new DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week of May 2nd 2017 include the dramedy "A Dog's Purpose", the horror sequel "Rings", the true story drama "Gold" starring Matthew McConaughey, the Oscar-winning drama "The Salesman" from writer/director Asghar Farhadi, and the comedy "The Comedian" starring Robert De Niro.

In the TV category, the complete third season of the Michael Bay-produced series "The Last Ship" is now available on home video.

We also have some new Blu-ray releases for the 1999 horror film "Virus" starring Jamie Lee Curtis, the John Travolta classic "Saturday Night Fever", "The Hindenburg", "Brewster's Millions" and "Seven Days in May".

THE COMEDIAN Trailer, Clips, Images and Poster

Directed by Taylor Hackford ("Ray"), the comedy "The Comedian" stars Robert De Niro as Jackie, an aging comic icon who's reached something of a dead end in his career. No matter how hard he tries to reinvent himself, people only want to know him as the former television character he once played. After accosting an audience member, Jackie is sentenced to perform community service, where he meets Harmony (Leslie Mann), and the two find unexpected inspiration in one another.

The film also stars Harvey Keitel, Danny DeVito, Patti LuPone, Edie Falco, Charles Grodin and Cloris Leachman.

"The Comedian" opened in theaters in limited release on December 9, 2016, and expanded nationwide on February 3rd. It received a negative critical reception and poor box-office results, grossing less than $1 million in its first wide opening weekend.

The film is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.

In Theaters: RINGS, THE SPACE BETWEEN US, WAR ON EVERYONE, THE COMEDIAN

This week in theaters we have "Rings", a horror reboot/sequel nobody asked for, and "The Space Between Us", a sci-fi coming-of-age story that looks to be a box-office dud. And this is just the beginning of February. In limited release the comedy "War on Everyone" might be worth checking out, but steer clear of Robert De Niro's latest stinker, "The Comedian".
