New on DVD and Blu-ray: April 11, 2017

The new DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week of April 11, 2017 include the Oscar nominated biopics "Lion" and "Hidden Figures", the sci-fi adventure film "Monster Trucks", the crime comedy "War on Everyone", the horror film "The Bye Bye Man", the western "Brimstone" and the Foreign Film Oscar nominee "Toni Erdmann". James Franco fans might be interested in the Blu-ray release of the 2006 film "Tristan + Isolde".

We also have three new series released this week on home video, HBO's "Silicon Valley" (Season 3) and "Veep" (Season 5), and National Geographic's intriguing miniseries "Mars".

There are also a decent number of oldies-but-goldies, mostly released as remastered Blu-ray editions. Among them, the most notable are the Criterion Collection's "The Young Girls of Rochefort" and "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", the horror films "Dark Waters", "House: Two Stories", and the collections featuring films in the "Phantasm" series and the "Dead or Alive" trilogy.

In Theaters: RINGS, THE SPACE BETWEEN US, WAR ON EVERYONE, THE COMEDIAN

This week in theaters we have "Rings", a horror reboot/sequel nobody asked for, and "The Space Between Us", a sci-fi coming-of-age story that looks to be a box-office dud. And this is just the beginning of February. In limited release the comedy "War on Everyone" might be worth checking out, but steer clear of Robert De Niro's latest stinker, "The Comedian".

New WAR ON EVERYONE Trailer and Poster

If you enjoyed the crazy buddy cop flavor of films like "The Nice Guys" or "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", then there's a good chance you'll love the upcoming comedy "War on Everyone".

Directed by John Michael McDonagh ("The Guard"), the film stars Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena as two corrupt cops who set out to frame and blackmail every criminal that crosses their path, until they meet their match in the form of a strip-club manager (Caleb Landry Jones) and his junkie boss (Theo James). What started out as a simple scheme ends up a bit more complicated as the two uncover a dark conspiracy.

The cast also includes Tessa Thompson, Paul Reiser and Stephanie Sigman.

"War on Everyone" opens in theaters on February 3rd, 2017.
