While it was originally reported that
Sharon Stone was in talks to star as villain Victoria Kord in the upcoming DC movie
"Blue Beetle", the role ultimately went to Academy Award winner
Susan Sarandon (
"Thelma & Louise",
"Dead Man Walking").
The film will focus on Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes, played by
Xolo Mariduena (
"Cobra Kai"), who in the comics is a working-class El Paso teenager devoted to his family who discovers the Blue Beetle scarab on the way home from school with two of his best friends, half-buried in a disused lot. Reyes takes the scarab home, curious as to what it might be. That night, the scarab comes alive and grafts itself to the base of Jaime's spine and provides him with a suit of extraterrestrial armor that can be modified to enhance his speed and strength, as well as to create weapons, wings and shields. Reyes is one of three characters from the comics who assumed the Blue Beetle mantle.
The cast also includes

"Charm City Kings") from a script by Mexican writer
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (
"Miss Bala").
Originaly developed for HBO Max,
"Blue Bettle" will be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
