Weekend Box-Office: BLUE BEETLE Flops in the Top Spot While STRAYS Just Flops

Two new films opened in theaters, but both performed poorly. The first is the DC Extended Universe flick "Blue Beetle", which managed to dethrone "Barbie", but still managed to offer one of the worst openings in DC history. The other was the R-rated canine comedy "Strays", which also underperformed dramatically.

STRAYS (2023) - Trailers, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Posters

"Strays" is a comedy directed by Josh Greenbaum ("Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar") from a script by Dan Perrault. The cast includes Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Will Forte, Isla Fisher, Randall Park, Harvey Guillén, Rob Riggle, Brett Gelman, Jamie Demetriou and Sofía Vergara. The film opened in theaters on August 18, 2023.

• "Saw X", the lastest installment in the horror franchise. Set between "Saw I" and "Saw II", the film is directed by franchise helmer Kevin Greutert, and starring Tobin Bell, Synnove Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach, Renata Vaca and Shawnee Smith.
• The R-rated canine comedy "Strays" featuring the voices of Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Isla Fisher and Randall Park. The cast also includes Will Forte, Josh Gad, Harvey Guillen, Rob Riggle, Brett Gelman, Jamie Demetriou and Sofia Vergara.
• The animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
• The comedy "Camp Hideout" starring Ethan Drew, Amanda Leighton, Corbin Bleu and Christopher Lloyd.
• Netflix's "Spy Kids: Armageddon", Robert Rodriguez's reboot of his family-friendly action comedy franchise. The cast features Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla, Connor Esterson, Billy Magnussen and D.J. Cotrona.
• The post-apocalyptic thriller "Stronghold" starring Bianca A. Santos ("Ouija"). The film is written and directed by Julia Camara.
