carol-2015-new-on-dvd-and-blu-ray

Product Description: CAROL follows two women from very different backgrounds who find themselves in an unexpected love affair in 1950s New York. As conventional norms of the time challenge their undeniable attraction, an honest story emerges to reveal the resilience of the heart in the face of change. A young woman in her 20s, Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), is a clerk working in a Manhattan department store and dreaming of a more fulfilling life when she meets Carol (Cate Blanchett), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. As an immediate connection sparks between them, the innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection deepens. While Carol breaks free from the confines of marriage, her husband (Kyle Chandler) begins to question her competence as a mother as her involvement with Therese and close relationship with her best friend Abby (Sarah Paulson) come to light.

2016-bafta-awards-nominations

The nominations for the 69th annual BAFTA awards have been announced. Leading the count are Todd Haynes' 1950s lesbian romance "Carol" and Steven Spielberg's cold war drama "Bridge of Spies", tied with nine nominations each, followed by Alejandro González Iñárritu's "The Revenant" with eight nods, all including Best Picture. Other Best Picture nominees are "The Big Short" and "Spotlight", while Outstanding British Film nominees include "The Danish Girl" and "Ex Machina".

Despite missing out on the major categories, Mad Max: Fury Road nabbed seven nominations in technical categories including Visual Effects, Cinematograhy, Editing, Sound and Visual Effects. And, fear not, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was not forgotten, receiving four nods for Music, Production Design, Sound and Visual Effects.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts will announced its winners on February 14th.

2016-golden-globe-nominations

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has revealed the nominees for the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards. The film with the most nominations this year is Todd Haynes' "Carol" with five nods for Best Picture, Director, a double for Leading Actress (Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara), and Score (Carter Burwell). Close behind are "The Revenant", "Steve Jobs" and "The Big Short" with four nominations each.

A big surprise, though, is that "Mad Max: Fury Road" scored two major nods (Best Picture and Director). "The Martian" is also present in three Comedy or Musical categories (Picture, Director and Leading Actor). It's a strange choice to call it a Comedy, but I guess it should be thankful, otherwise two of its three nominations would have probably disappeared.

It was a good year for Alicia Vikander who scored two nominations, one for "The Danish Girl" in the Lead Role category, and one for "Ex Machina" for Supporting Role.

The TV nominees include "Game of Thrones", "Empire", "Narcos", "Mr. Robot", "American Horror Story: Hotel", "Mozart in the Jungle", "Casual", "Fargo", "Outlander", "Transparent", "Veep" and more.

The winners will be announced Sunday, January 10th on NBC and the show will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.
