Alicia Silverstone has joined the all-star cast of
Yorgos Lanthimos' new film
"Bugonia". The script is penned by Emmy winner
Will Tracy (
"Succession",
"The Menu") based on the 2003 South Korean comedy
"Save the Green Planet". Silverstone previously appeared in Lanthimos' 2017 psychological thriller
"The Killing of a Sacred Deer".
The movie follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. Details of Silverstone' role are being kept under wraps. The cast already includes
Emma Stone and
Jesse Plemons. The film, which is distributed domestically by Focus Features, will open in theaters on November 7, 2025. Universal is distributing internationally except for Korea, where CJ ENM will release.
"Bugonia" was developed by
"Parasite" producing company CJ ENM with
Ari Aster and
Lars Knudsen at Square Peg. Lanthomis, Aster and Knudson are producing the project with
Ed Guiney and
Andrew Lowe from Element Pictures, alongside Stone via her banner Fruit Tree and
Miky Lee and
Jerry Kyoungboum Ko for CJ ENM. The production is financed by CJ ENM and Fremantle.
Silverstone is also set to star in Acorn TV's upcoming series
"Irish Blood".
