Writers Guild Awards 2025 Nominations - The Complete List

The nominees for the 77th annual Writers Guild Awards have been revealed, and among the feature films nominated for top honors are "Anora", "Challengers", "A Complete Unknown", "Nickel Boys", "Civil War", "Dune: Part Two" and "Wicked".

Due to the WGA's eligibility rules, films like "Conclave", "Emilia Pérez", "I'm Still Here", "Inside Out 2", "The Room Next Door", "Sing Sing" and "The Wild Robot" were ruled out in the Adapted race, while in the Original Screenplay category, films like "A Different Man", "The Brutalist", "His Three Daughters", "The Substance" and "Hard Truths" were deemed ineligible.

For television, the top contenders include "The Bear", "Abbott Elementary", "Hacks", "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "What We Do in the Shadows" for the Comedy categories, while "The Boys", "The Diplomat", "Fallout", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "Fallout" and "Shōgun" will compete for Drama trophies.

The winners will be announced on February 15th during concurrent ceremonies in New York at the Edison Ballroom and Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton.

Weekend Box-Office: John Krasinski's IF Scores Modest $35 Million Debut

The family-friendly fantasy comedy "IF" fell short of expectations, but still opened at the top of the box-office. While the horror thriller "The Strangers: Chapter 1" scored a solid debut, the Amy Winehouse biopic "Back to Black" stumbled in its opening weekend.

Weekend Box-Office: KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Conquers All With $129 Million Worldwide Debut

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", the latest installment in the rebooted "Planet of the Apes" series scored an impressive debut, coming ahead of pre-release tracking. It also helped that competition was basically non-existent over the weekend.

Weekend Box-Office: THE FALL GUY Disappoints With $28.5 Million While THE PHANTOM MENACE Scores No. 2 Debut

The combined star-power of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt wasn't enough to turn "The Fall Guy" into a bonafide blockbuster. The film topped the charts but fell below initial projections. The re-release of "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" scored a solid debut, and so did the small-budget horror film "Tarot".

Weekend Box-Office: Zendaya's CHALLENGERS Tops Charts With $15 Million Debut

The Zendaya starrer "Challengers" dominated the weekend box-office, while the faith-based drama "Unsung Hero" scored a solid debut. The action comedy "Boy Kills World" tanked and barely made it into the Top 10.

CHALLENGERS (2024) - Trailers, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Posters

"Challengers" is a romantic sports drama directed by Luca Guadagnino ("Call Me By Your Name", "Suspiria" remake) from a script by and Justin Kuritzkes. The cast includes Zendaya, Mike Faist, Josh O'Connor, Darnell Appling, AJ Lister and Nada Despotovich. The film premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, and was released in theaters on April 26, 2024 in the US.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau reprises his role from the original, and he is joined by Alex Hogh Andersen, Ulf Pilgaard, Sara Viktoria Bjerregaard, Kim Bodnia and Sonja Richter.
• The Canadian sports drama "Backspot" starring Devery Jacobs ("Reservation Dogs") and Evan Rachel Wood.
• The suspense thriller "You Can't Run Forever" starring J.K. Simmons. The film is directed by Michelle Schumacher, Simmons' wife in real life.

Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist to Star in Luca Guadagnino Tennis Drama CHALLENGERS

Zendaya ("Euphoria") has signed, on and Josh O'Connor ("The Crown") and Mike Faist ("West Side Story") are in talks to star in MGM's upcoming romantic drama "Challengers". The film will be directed by Luca Guadagnino ("Call Me By Your Name") from a script by playwright Justin Kuritzkes.

The film focuses on the competitive world of pro tennis, in which player-turned-coach Tashi (Zendaya) has transformed her husband Art (Faist) into a Grand Slam champion. After a losing streak, Tashi enters him into a "Challenger" event — the lowest pro tournament level — where he must face off against Patrick (O'Connor), Tashi's former boyfriend and his former best friend.

The script was featured on the 2021 Black List, a ranking of the best non-produced script in Hollywood. Production is expected to begin this spring on the East Coast. Amy Pascal ("Spider-Man: No Way Home") will be producing via her Pascal Pictures alongside Zendaya and Guadagnino.

Guadagnino is currently in post-production on the cannibal drama "Bones and All" starring Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell.
