Weekend Box Office Spider Man Brand New Day Odyssey Labor Day

The superhero flick "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and Christopher Nolan's epic "The Odyssey" are still holding very well in their sixth and eighth weekend, respectively, and effortlessly conquered Labor Day with little in the way of competition. The two films helped push the summer box office to an all time record of $4.76 billion (May 1 - September 7). The previous record was set in 2013 with $4.75 billion.

The only new wide releases were the true story thriller "By Any Means", the survival thriller "Fall 2: Deadpoint" and the horror action film "Onslaught", but neither performed spectacularly, and the latter two actually fell short of the Top 10.

Weekend Box Office Spider Man Brand New Day Coyote Vs Acme Dog Stars Buddy

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues its box office domination, topping the charts for a fifth consecutive weekend. "The Odyssey" is also still holding on as the film continues to prove it has a decent pair of legs. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated live-action/animation hybrid legal comedy "Coyote vs. Acme" scored a decent debut, but not one as impressive as many expected, and Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic thriller "The Dog Stars" tanked. The indie satirical horror film "Buddy", on the other hand, offered a solid debut performance.

John Cena To Star In Looney Tunes Live-Action/Animated Hybrid COYOTE VS ACME
John Cena ("Peacemaker") has signed on to star in Warner Bros' live-action/CG animation hybrid feature film "Coyote Vs. Acme", which will be directed by "Earth to Echo" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" helmer Dave Green. The latest draft of the script was penned by Samy Burch, based on the Looney Tunes characters and the 1990 New Yorker humor article "Coyote V. Acme" by Ian Frazier.

The film, which has been described as part courtroom drama, part family comedy, follows Wile E. Coyote, who after ACME products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the ACME Corporation. The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer against the latter's intimidating former boss (Cena), but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win.

Production will begin in late March in New Mexico. Chris DeFaria and James Gunn are producing the film, which is set to open in theaters on July 21, 2023.

Cena will also star in the second season of the HBO Max series "Peacemaker".
