"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues its box office domination, topping the charts for a fifth consecutive weekend. "The Odyssey" is also still holding on as the film continues to prove it has a decent pair of legs. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated live-action/animation hybrid legal comedy "Coyote vs. Acme" scored a decent debut, but not one as impressive as many expected, and Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic thriller "The Dog Stars" tanked. The indie satirical horror film "Buddy", on the other hand, offered a solid debut performance.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" raked in another $22.5 million in its fifth weekend in the top spot, dropping 42.3%. The superhero flick has now grossed a total of $891.8 million domestically and $1.44 billion internationally. That's a worldwide total of $2.332 billion. The film is on its way to become the all-time domestic box office champ, and will rank third worldwide as soon as it passes "Avatar: The Way of Water" ($2.334 billion).
"Coyote vs. Acme" opened in second place with $15.9 million from 3,575 theaters. This is the biggest opening weekend ever for Ketchup Entertainment, who rescued the movie from Warner Bros after it was canned for a tax write-off. The film cost around $70 million to produce, but Ketchup acquired it for $50 million. It was also reported that advertising only cost another $10 million, so the movie would obviously need more than $60 million to be considered profitable. Considering this, it's a pretty weak start, but the movie does have solid word-of-mouth going for it (96% on Rotten Tomatoes and "A" CinemaScore). We'll have to wait and see what the second weekend looks like.
