Nicholas Hoult to Play Gilderoy Lockhart in HARRY POTTER Season 2

Nicholas Hoult to Play Gilderoy Lockhart in HARRY POTTER Season 2
Nicholas Hoult ("Superman", "Nosferatu", "Mad Max: Fury Road") has signed on to star in the second season of HBO's "Harry Potter" series based on J.K. Rowling's seven-book fantasy series. The first season will debut on December 25, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max, and it will adapt "Harry Pottter and the Philosopher's Stone", the first book in the novel series. The second season is based on the next book, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets".

Hoult is set to play Gilderoy Lockhart, a central character in "Chamber of Secrets" who is a famous wizard known for many heroic acts that he has documented in a number of books, though he is also incredibly arrogant and vain. He becomes the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, but it quickly becomes evident he is not qualified for the job. The character was played by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film of the same name.

Filming on the second season of "Harry Potter" will begin this fall. The cast includes Dominic McLaughlin in the title role, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively, John Lithgow as Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Season 1 writer Jon Brown has been promoted to serve as co-showrunner on Season 2, joining current showrunner and series developer Francesca Gardiner, who also serves as executive producer alongside director Mark Mylod. Author J.K. Rowling executive produces alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV and David Heyman of Heyday Films. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
