Nintendo and Sony's highly anticipated live-action Zelda movie wrapped filming in April and we now have some interesting updates about the film's cast. Last year we found out Benjaming Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason were cast as Link and Zelda, respectively, and since then the studio kept the casting process under wraps. However, it has now been revealed that the cast also includes Uli Latukefu, Dichen Lachman, Yvonne Strahovski, Lydia Peckham, and Sam Neill.
Australian actor Uli Latukefu ("Young Rock", "MaXXXine") has landed the role of the main villain Ganondorf in "The Legend of Zelda". Ganondorf is a powerful warlock king driven to dominate protagonists Link and Princess Zelda's kingdom of Hyrule. Latukefu reportedly signed a multi-picture deal.
Dichen Lachman ("Severance") joins the cast as Impa, the bodyguard and advisor to Princess Zelda, while Yvonne Strahovski ("The Handmaid's Tale") has joined the cast in what has been reported to be a "queen character".
Lydia Peckham ("Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", "Nuremberg") and the late Sam Neill will also appear in the film, but their roles have not been revealed. Neill died on July 13th, but had already filmed his part, which will be one of his final screen performances.
"The Legend of Zelda" is based on the popular video game franchise created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, which has sold over 150 million units since 1986. The film is directed by Wes Ball ("Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", "The Maze Runner") from a script by T.S. Nowlin ("The Maze Runner", "The Adam Project"). It will be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
Miyamoto produces alongside Avi Arad. Sony co-financed the project with Nintendo and is distributing.
