"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues to firmly dominate the box-office, topping the weekend box office for a fourth time in a row. A wave of new releases hit theaters over the weekend, but only the horror film "Insidious: Out of the Further" managed to score a decent debut, while the Jason Statham flick "Mutiny" and the comedy "Spa Weekend" tanked.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has just become the first film to dominate four consecutive weeks since "Avatar: Fire and Ash". It raked in $39 million in its fourth frame, dropping 44.8%. The film has now grossed $854.9 million in North America, and another $1.36 billion from foreign markets, which brings its massive worldwide tally to $2.2 billion.
The horror film "Insidious: Out of the Further", the sixth installment in the franchise, opened with $25.1 million from 3,303 theaters. That's pretty much in line with other franchise openings. The first "Insidious" opened with $13.2 million in 2010, Chapters 2 and 3 opened with $40.2 million in 2013 and $22.6 million in 2015, while "Insidious: The Last Key" scored a $29.5 million debut in 2018, and "Insidious: The Red Door" opened with $33 million in 2023. "Insidious: Out of the Further" also raked in another $35 million internationally, which brings its global debut to $60.1 million. The film only cost $18 million to produce, so it's already very profitable. Both the critical and audience reception were mixed-to-negative (56% on Rotten Tomatoes and "C+" on CinemaScore).
Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" was forced to take a step back, landing in third place in its sixth weekend, but it's still a strong contender, grossing $19.7 million, which is an incredible 16.5% drop given all the competition. The epic has now grossed a total of $539.2 million domestically and $908.9 million from overseas markets, which brings its worldwide tally to $1.44 billion.
The animated film "PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie" is holding in fourth place with $9.1 million, down 54.7% from its opening weekend. The children's movie has reached a domestic total of $35.4 million, and overseas it adds another $68 million for a worldwide cume of $103.4 million against a $40 million budget. It needed around $80 million to break even, so despite a modest domestic start, it's a profitable movie for Paramount.
The Top 5 is rounded out by "The End of Oak Street" with $8.7 million, down 58.3% from its debut. The film raked in $37.7 million from the domestic market, and another $48 million from international screens. That's a worldwide total of $85.7 million. Given the film's hefty $92 million budget, it looks like a flop for Warner Bros, as it would need to gross around 170-180 million to recoup its costs.
Jason Statham's new movie "Mutiny" only managed a sixth place debut with $7.7 million from 2,703 theaters. The other new wide release, the comedy "Spa Weekend" from the writers/directors of "The Hangover", barely made the Top 10, opening in ninth place with $3 million. Both films were harshly reviewed by critics, with "Mutiny" getting a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and "Spa Weekend", an even worse 34%. Both films received a lukewarm reception from moviegoers and earned a "B+" from CinemaScore.
In other news, the Anthony Bourdain biopic "Tony" expanded nationwide and finished in seventh place with $5 million (a 576% increase from its limited release). Its domestic total is now at $6.6 million. While the production budget hasn't been officially revealed, it has been reported that it's somewhere below $15 million.
The 2001 film "The Fast and the Furiouos" was re-released in theaters for its 25th anniversary, and landed in eight place, grossing $3.1 million.
Meanwhile, the satirical surrealist psychological slasher film "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma" also expanded nationwide and finished the weekend in tenth place with $1.9 million. The film has now grossed a total of $3.6 million. It cost around $10 million to produce.
Unfortunately, the fantasy film "The Magic Faraway Tree", which received a semi-wide release in theaters, failed to make the Top 10, grossing $1.3 million from 1,611 theaters.
