Finn Wittrock to Star in GREEN LANTERN Series on HBO Max
Finn Wittrock ("American Horror Story", "Versace: American Crime Story") has signed on to star as a key DC Comics character in HBO Max's upcoming "Green Lantern" series. The big-budget show, which has been in development since 2019, will be written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith.

The show will reinvent the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They'll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.

Wittrock will star as Guy Gardner, who is described as a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable. Casting for Alan Scott is also expected to be announced shortly as a deal with an actor is on the cusp of closing.

"Green Lantern" is expected to begin filming this year.

Wittrock recently wrapped filming the tenth season of "American Horror Story" and is also attached to star in the second season of "Ratched". He can next be seen in the Ben Affleck movie "Deep Water" and in "A Mouthful of Air" opposite Amanda Seyfried.

So, apparently the trouble the filmmakers had with "Green Lantern" was all about using the green screen for the CGI, because the hero is, well, green. Which explains why Warner Bros. dumped so much money into the movie. Or, at least, it could explain it, 'cause this is but a parody of the bloated superhero movie's production efforts.

Here are three new TV Spots for "Green Lantern", the highly anticipated comic book adaptation from director Martin Campbell ("Casino Royale", "Edge of Darkness"). The clips offer some new footage mixed in with everything we've already seen in the countless spots and trailers that came before. One of them even brags about how enthusiastic critics are about this movie, by way of those eloquent one-word quotes. The early reviews I've been reading are far from being as postivie as Warner Brothers wants us to believe they are, but I guess we'll find out soon enough. The movie opens in theaters this week, as announced by another one of the TV Spots which signals the 3-day countdown. Needless to say, the seven new movie clips from "Green Lantern" provide an excellent first look at the movie. You have it all: plot, action and great visual effects. The movie, starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong will open on June 17, 2011 in the US and the UK. "The Oath, the Ring and the Lantern" is a two-minute featurette detailing the fantastical mythology of the "Green Lantern". It mainly features an interview with Ryan Reynolds about his character, Hal, and the concept of the Lantern. The scenes featured here are nothing really new, but the interviews add enough insight into the movie's themes to warrant a look. The movie opens on June 17, 2011.

A new wave of TV Spots have hit the Internet, featuring a wealth of new footage from the comic book adaptation "Green Lantern", directed by Martin Campbell ("Goldeneye", "Casino Royale", "Vertical Limit"). The movie has had some trouble with the CGI, especially after some harsh fan comments about the visual effects, but they seem to have pulled through nicely. The movie opens on June 17, 2011. Here's a new trailer for "Green Lantern". Now, this trailer is a 3D version, therefore there are a lot of CGI scenes that look impressive. Unfortunately, the internet only provides the 2D version, so unless you've been fortunate enough to see this one when it premiered in theaters, this version might not seem like much. Still, it's pretty neat, including the cool Geoffrey Rush narration. Opens June 17, 2011. Enjoy !

As the June 17 release date fastly approaches, Warner Brothers is attempting to smooth over some the "Green Lantern"s rougher edges by adding another 9 million dollars to its visual effects budget, according to Variety, and calling in a third company to handle additional VFX scenes. The already massive budget, which is reported to be somewhere around $200 million, is getting larger, which means the movie is going to have to be extremely efficient at the box-office if Warner Brother is ever going to consider turning this into a movie franchise. Just think how badly the first "Hulk" movie did. It seems Warner is very worried about the quality of the CGI. Initial response from the fans was extremely negative when the first images from the movie surfaced some months ago, which determined the crew to drastically rework the visual effects. The improvement was noticable, especially in the WonderCon footage, but there's probably more work to be done. I'm sure the VFX guys know what they're doing, but from what I've seen, this is a very difficult movie to make, as there are so many crazy sci-fi elements to consider and adapt convincingly.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all. -- (C) Warner Bros

The trailer is basically a shorter version of the WonderCon footage, with little or no significant differences. The more I watch the trailers for "Green Lantern", the more intrigued I get. This could really be a significantly different superhero movie, if done right. Due for release on June 17, 2011.

The WonderCon montage is a visual feast indeed. As a four minutes suite of scenes arranged in trailer fashion, that teases the story of the movie to comic book fans everywhere, it's actually pretty interesting. Ryan Reynolds has a pretty cool scene, the one where he pledges his allegiance, but, as usual the focus here is mostly on scenes revealing the visual design and effects, which usually drive the popcorn hungry audiences to the multiplexes. I will give them this, though, it is probably the most extravagant looking superhero movie I've ever seen, probably keeping very closely to the source material. In keep with current trends, the movie, directed by Martin Campbell ("Vertical Limit", "Goldeneye", "Casino Royale") will be released in 3D, on June 17, 2011.
