Product Description: Two master filmmakers, Abba Kiarostami (A Taste of Cherry) and Jafar Panahi (The Circle, Taxi), team up as writer and director, respectively, on CRIMSON GOLD, a subtle tragedy on class conflict in modern Iran. Hussein (Hossain Emadeddin, a real-life pizza delivery man who has schizophrenia) is a lumbering war veteran swollen by cortisone (for war-induced pain) and reduced to delivering pizzas at night. Through his nightly rounds, he bears witness to the rewards and vanities of the city's wealthy. He is humiliated when a jewelry shop owner won't allow him in his store, and under pressure to get married, Hussein awkwardly aspires to higher ground. When an eccentric socialite gives him a taste of luxury, Hussein can no longer accept his lowly status. Kiarostami based the story on an actual newspaper account of a botched robbery attempt at a Tehranian jewelry store by a desperate pizza deliveryman.

IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT / YEK TASADEF SADEH (2025) - Trailer, Clip, Images and Posters

"It Was Just an Accident" ("Yek tasadef sadeh") is an Iran-France-Luxembourg co-produced thriller written and directed by Jafar Panahi. The cast includes Vahid Mobasseri, Mariam Afshari, Ebrahim Azizi, Hadis Pakbaten Majid Panahi, Mohamad Ali Elyasmehr, Delnaz Najafi, Afssaneh Najmabadi and Georges Hashemzadeh.

The film premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Palme d'Or. It opened in theaters in France on October 1, 2025. In the US it was released in select theaters on October 15th, and via streaming on December 16th.

Cannes Film Festival 2025 Winners - The Complete List

Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival for the drama "It Was Just an Accident". Neon acquired the film earlier this week, along with Joachim Trier's dramedy "Sentimental Value", which won the Grand Prize. The Brazilian political thriller "The Secret Agent" won Best Director (Kleber Mendonça Filho), while its lead Wagner Moura took home the trophy for Best Actor.

The jury included Halle Berry, Dieudo Hamadi, Hong Sang-soo, Payal Kapadia, Carlos Reygadas, Alba Rohrwacher, Leila Slimani and Jeremy Strong. French actress Juliette Binoche served as jury president.

Two Honorary Palme d'Or were awarded to Robert De Niro during the festival's opening ceremony, and the second to Denzel Washington before the world premiere of Spike Lee's "Highest 2 Lowest".
