Weekend Box-Office: JUMANJI Returns to the Top of the Box-Office on Super Bowl Weekend

Without any serious competition at the box-office, "Jumanji" returned to the top of the charts over the Super Bowl weekend. The only new wide release, the horror film "Winchester" performed slightly better than expected.

Weekend Box-Office: MAZE RUNNER - THE DEATH CURE Removes JUMANJI From the Top Spot

"Jumanji" took a step down at the box-office over the weekend, without showing signs of slowing down, and "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" took its place at the top of the charts. Also, the newly expanded "Hostiles" delivered a strong performance in its first wide weekend.

MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE Trailers, TV Spots, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Posters

The dystopian sci-fi film "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is the final chapter in the "Maze Runner" franchise, and it's based on the book of the same name written by James Dashner. Wes Ball returns to direct this threequel that finds Thomas (Dylan O'Brien), Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Frypan (Dexter Darden), the last of the "Gladers" embarking on a dangerous mission to rescue their friend Minho (Ki Hong Lee) and find a cure for the deadly disease known as the "Flare".

The film also stars Kaya Scodelario, Rosa Salazar, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, Nathalie Emmanuel, Walton Goggins, Will Poulter, Jacob Lofland, Katherine McNamara, Barry Pepper, and Patricia Clarkson.

"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" opened in theaters on January 26, 2018 after a year-long delay. Initially the film was scheduled for a February 17, 2017 release, but following a serious injury sustained on-set by Dylan O'Brien, the studio decided to delay the production in order for the actor to fully recover.

The critical reception was mixed with most critics complaining about its bloated story and weak writing, but it did receive praise for its action and the conclusion is that it will certainly appeal to its fans. The film is expected to gross around $23 million in its opening weekend.

In Theaters: MAZE RUNNER - THE DEATH CURE, HOSTILES, AMERICAN FOLK and PLEASE STAND BY

This week in theaters we have the final chapter in the "Maze Runner" franchise titled "Maze Runner: The Death Cure", and the western drama "Hostiles" starring Christian Bale. In limited release it might be worth checking out the indie dramas "American Folk" and "Please Stand By" starring Dakota Fanning.
