Gary Oldman has signed on to star in Apple's upcoming series
"Slow Horses" executive produced by
"Justified" creator
Graham Yost, based on
Mick Herron's spy novels.
"Slow Horses" is the first book in the series, published in 2010, and it follows Jackson Lamb (Oldman), a brilliant but irascible leader of a group of spies, who end up in MI5's Slough House, having been exiled from the mainstream for their mistakes. The plot centers on the abduction of a young man with the kidnappers threatening to behead him live on the internet, but question marks are raised as to whether the victim is who he appears to be when murky connection between the kidnappers and a disgraced journalist is revealed.
The series will be written by
Will Smith a frequent collaborator of
"Veep" creator
Armando Iannucci. Smith will also executive produce alongside
Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux and
Douglas Urbanski.
Oldman is keeping himself busy for next year. He is currently working on the biopic
"Mank" in which he stars as
"Citizen Kane" screenwriter
Herman Mankiewicz. Other projects include the thriller
"Dreamland" in which he co-stars alongside
Luke Evans and
Lily-Rose Depp, and the mystery drama
"The Woman in the Window" opposite
Amy Adams. He is also set to write, direct and star in the biopic
"Flying Horse", which chronicles the life of pioneer photographer
Eadweard Muybridge.
