71st Annual Golden Globes Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 71st Annual Golden Globes have been announced. The nominations include some of the year's usual suspects, including "12 Years a Slave", "Captain Phillips", "Gravity", "Inside Llewyin Davis" and "American Hustle", but also some unusually surprising choices for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including nominations for Spike Jonze's "Her", "Nebraska" and "Labor Day". Other surprise contenders are "Rush" and "Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom". "Blue is the Warmest Color" was nominated in the Best Foreign Film category and has the best chance to win the award. The winners will be announced on January 12, 2014, and the ceremony will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Nominations for 2012 BAFTA Awards Announced

The BAFTA nominations for 2012 have been announced and there are no big surprises for the most part. Many british films have received recognition, with a lot of love shown for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", one of 2011s highlights, but one which has been snubbed at this year's Golden Globes, and there's a good chance it won't receive many Oscar nominations, either. Still, the BAFTAs offer a great opportunity for movies like "Attack the Block", "Coriolanus", "Tyrannosaur" to get some recognition (all three nominated for Outstanding British Film). Also, "Drive" is much better represented here, with three solid nominations for Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Editing (Albert Brooks was snubbed, though). Fincher fans will be disappointed to hear that "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was pretty much ignored apart from two nominations for Original Music and Cinematography. 2011 Screen Actors Guild Nominations

The nominations for the 2011 Screen Actors Guild awards have been announced and, honestly, while there are some surprises here and there, it's all about obvious choices. Leonardo diCaprio, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Michelle Williams, Jessica Chastain, Kate Winslet, Christopher Plummer, Guy Pearce, Kenneth Branagh and many more will compete for the coveted Guild award. Like I said, while most of the nominations will seem a bit too obvious, given the film festival hype that's been propagating for some time now, there are a few surprise noms.
