Marie A True Story 1985 New On Bluray

Product Description: Pay the man, get out of prison. It's a sweet deal for the Tennessee officials who let killers and rapists go free for a price. And who would have the guts to defy the state's power elite? No one, except a courageous single mom named Marie Ragghianti. This gripping film tells the true story of a woman who became head of the Tennessee parole board, then stood up to lies, threats and murder to blow the whistle on her bosses -- and send many of them, including the governor, to the pen. Sissy Spacek brings luminous intelligence to the role of Marie, and the remarkable supporting cast includes Morgan Freeman, Jeff Daniels and screen-debuting Fred Thompson (later a Tennessee senator) playing himself, Marie's real-life attorney.

No Way Out 1987 Bluray 4k

Product Description: Charged with high-voltage tension and suspense, the electrifying thriller No Way Out is a tightly wound tale of intrigue set in the political whirl of Washington and the inner corridors of the Pentagon. In this ’80s box-office smash, Kevin Costner (The Untouchables, Revenge) stars as naval hero Lieutenant Commander Tom Farrell, the new CIA liaison for Defense Secretary David Brice, a high-ranking master of political maneuvers played by the dynamic Gene Hackman (The Package, Narrow Margin). Sexy Sean Young (Blade Runner) is a gorgeous party girl who plays politics herself as Brice’s mistress and Farrell’s secret lover. And Will Patton (Desperately Seeking Susan) is the Secretary’s ruthless aide, architect of a cover-up scheme that protects his boss, but entraps Farrell, putting his life in danger. With its serpentine plot twists, narrow escapes and true-to-life Pentagon setting, No Way Out is the harrowing story of an innocent man caught in a complex web of romance and murder, power and corruption. Stylishly directed by Roger Donaldson (The Bounty, Species) from Kenneth Fearing’s classic noir novel, The Big Clock. The stellar supporting cast includes Howard Duff (Shakedown), George Dzundza (Basic Instinct) and Fred Thompson (Die Hard 2).

the-bounty-1984-new-on-blu-ray

Product Description: Screen legends Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal) and Mel Gibson (The Road Warrior, Braveheart) lead a stellar cast that includes Sir Laurence Olivier (Rebecca), Daniel Day-Lewis (The Crucible), Edward Fox (The Day of the Jackal), Bernard Hill (Titanic) and Liam Neeson (The Grey) in this action-packed adventure bursting with sensational battles, raging storms and an intensity as powerful as the mighty sea itself. Bristling with commanding performances, blazing dialogue and superb action scenes, this spectacular movie is everything a high-adventure fan could want. Hopkins delivers a brilliant portrayal as William Bligh, a real-life sea captain who, in 1787, steered The Bounty on a 27,000-mile voyage into danger, chaos and madness. After 31 days of battling severe sea squalls and Bligh's ever-increasing cruelty, the weary crew is relieved to finally land on a remote island. But soon their tyrannical captain wants to sail again, and the desperate men turn to first mate Fletcher Christian (Gibson) to help them take the ship back... or die trying. Directed by Roger Donaldson (Cadillac Man) with a screenplay by Robert Bolt (Lawrence of Arabia), based on a novel by Richard Hough (Captain Bligh and Mr. Christian).

smash-palace-1981-new-on-blu-ray

Product Description: Premiering at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival, Smash Palace was Roger Donaldson's second feature following the success of Sleeping Dogs, a film which had heralded the arrival of the New Zealand New Wave.

Smash Palace concerns itself with the marriage of former racing driver Al (Bruno Lawrence, The Quiet Earth) and French-born Jacqui (Anna Jemison, Nomads). The pair had met when she nursed him back to health following a career-ending injury. They married, returned to Al s native New Zealand to take over his late father s wrecking yard business the Smash Palace of the title and had a child. But over time stagnation has set in, Jacqui s resentment of Al has grown, and things are threatening to spill over...

Playing out as a darker, more haunting New Zealand variation on such US separation movies as Kramer vs. Kramer or Shoot the Moon, Smash Palace offers a brilliant, vivid messy portrait of masculinity in crisis, driven by Lawrence s immense central performance once again confirming his status as one of New Zealand s finest actors.

sleeping-dogs-1977-new-on-special-edition-blu-ray

Product Description: Adapted from C.K. Stead s novel Smith s Dream, Sleeping Dogs almost single-handedly kickstarted the New Zealand New Wave, demonstrating that homegrown feature films could resonate with both local and international audiences, and launching the big-screen careers of director Roger Donaldson (No Way Out, Species) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Possession).

Neill in his first lead role in a feature plays Smith, a man escaping the break-up of his marriage by finding isolation on an island off the Coromandel Peninsula. As he settles into his new life, the country is experiencing its own turmoil: an oil embargo has led to martial law and civil war, into which Smith reluctantly finds himself increasingly involved.

Co-starring Warren Oates (Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia) as the commander of a US army unit drawn into the conflict, Sleeping Dogs is simultaneously a political thriller, a personal drama and a true landmark in New Zealand cinema.
