THE KITCHEN (2019) - Trailers, TV Spots, Featurettes, Images and Posters

"The Kitchen" is a crime drama written and directed by Oscar-nominated "Straight Outta Compton" scribe Andrea Berloff, in her directorial debut.

Based on the Vertigo comic book of the same name by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle, the movie stars Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss and Tiffany Haddish as wives of New York gangsters in Hell's Kitchen in the 1970s, who continue to operate their husbands' rackets after they're locked up in prison. The ensemble cast also includes Domhnall Gleeson, James Badge Dale, Brian d'Arcy James, Jeremy Bobb, with Margo Martindale, Common, and Bill Camp.

"The Kitchen" opened in theaters on August 9, 2019 and received mostly negative reviews from critics. It also bombed at the box-office, opening with $5.5 million from 2,742 theaters, the worst opening weekend ever for both McCarthy and Haddish.

Weekend Box-Office: SCARY STORIES Tops Newcomers With $20.8M Debut While HOBBS & SHAW Holds at #1

It was a busy weekend with no less than five new wide releases competing against an already strong batch of contenders. While "Hobbs & Shaw" still leads the charts, the PG-13 thriller "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" managed a stronger-than-expected debut. The family adventure film "Dora and the Lost City of Gold" slightly underperformed, while the dramedy "The Art of Racing in the Rain", and the crime drama "The Kitchen" failed to impress audiences. The true story drama "Brian Banks" didn't make The Top 10.

In Theaters: DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, THE KITCHEN, BRIAN BANKS and THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN

Paramount's "Dora and the Lost City of Gold", the live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon's "Dora the Explorer" animated TV series, has been released in theaters and will attempt to overthrow "The Lion King" and "Hobbs & Shaw". Pundits predict a close contest between Disney and Universal's big budget behemoths, but Dora could very well surpass both with a little luck. Starring Isabela Moner, the film has delivered $1.25 million from previews, and it might finish the weekend with over $20 million from 3,735 theaters.

Things are also looking good for the new horror film "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark", which is produced by Oscar-winning genre filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. Based on the children's book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz, the PG-13 film has grossed $2.3 million from Thursday night previews, and predictions point towards a decent $15-19 million debut from 3,135 theaters.

Critics did not love this film and it will probably deliver a disappointing debut, probably between $7-$9 million from 2,745.

The dramedy "The Art of Racing in the Rain", a Disney release of a 20th Century Fox film, is also out in theaters, and expected to perform poorly. Based on the 2008 novel of the same name, the film stars Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried and a canine companion voiced by Kevin Costner. Released in 2,765 theaters, pundits expect the film to gross around $9 million in its opening weekend.

For fans of true stories, we have the biopic "Brian Banks", which stars Aldis Hodge as the titular football player, whose found his life and career ruined when he was wrongly convicted of a crime he didn't commit. The film is directed by "Liar, Liar" and "Bruce Almighty" helmer Tom Shadyac, and it's expected to finish the weekend outside the Top 10 with around $2 million from 1,240 theaters.

• The Spanish-language thriller "Monos" from acclaimed Colombian-Ecuadorian filmmaker Alejandro Landes ("Porfirio", "Cocalero"). The film won the World Cinema Special Jury Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
• Showtime's new dark comedy series "On Becoming a God in Central Florida" starring Kisten Dunst, Alexander Skarsgard, Ted Levine and Theodore Pellerin.

Elisabeth Moss Joins Tiffany Haddish, Melissa McCarthy in Crime Drama THE KITCHEN

As previously reported, "The Kitchen" is a crime drama from New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment based on the comic book series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle. Set in 1970s Hell's Kitchen, the film follows the wives of Irish mobsters sent to prison, who take over their spouses' operations, becoming the Kitchen's most ruthless and feared gangsters.

The cast alread includes Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish, and the latest addition is Golden Globe and Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss ("The Handmaid's Tale"). Moss will star as the timid wife of an abusive husband who falls in love with the violence of her new life. McCarthy's character is describes as "an adoring mother who leads the women's charge to take over the business", and Haddish will play a woman who is "willing to kill anyone in the way of her plan".

"The Kitchen" will mark the directorial debut of "Straight Outta Compton" co-writer Andrea Berloff, who will also pen the script. The film is scheduled for release on September 20, 2019.

Melissa McCarthy To Join Tiffany Haddish In Crime Drama THE KITCHEN

Melissa McCarthy ("Bridesmaids") is in talks to star alongside Tiffany Haddish ("Girls Trip") in the crime drama "The Kitchen", which is being developed by New Line and DC Entertainment. The film will be "Straight Outta Compton" scribe Andrea Berloff's directorial debut, and it's based on the 2014 DC Vertigo comic book series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle.

The story is set in 1970s New York and focuses on the Irish mafia. The protagonists are three female anti-heroes, mob wives, who take over their husbands' criminal enterprise after they were arrested by the FBI, and run the business even more ferociously than their spouses ever did.

McCarthy can also be seen in Marielle Heller's drama "Can You Ever Forgive Me ?", which opens in October, and this summer's comedy "Life of the Party" directed by her husband Ben Falcone. She is also set to star in the holiday musical "Margie Clause", which she is also producing for New Line.
