Written and directed by Sally Potter, the black comedy "The Party" focuses on an intimate gathering of friends at the London home of a politician (Kristin Scott Thomas) who is celebrating her political ascension. An announcement made by her husband (Cillian Murphy) triggers a series of revelations that cause the celebration to spiral into chaos and possibly murder.
The film also stars Patricia Clarkson, Bruno Ganz, Cherry Jones, Emily Mortimer and Timothy Spall.
"The Party" was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival and won the festival's Guild Film Prize. The film was released in the U.K. on October 13, 2017 and in limited release in the U.S. on February 16, 2018.
