Weekend Box-Office: FINDING DORY and CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE Top the Charts

Disney has once again scored a #1 hit at the box-office with its Pixar collaboration "Finding Dory", breaking some new records in the process, while the action comedy "Central Intelligence" landed a respectable second place.

Weekend Box-Office: THE CONJURING 2 Scares Off WARCRAFT and NOW YOU SEE ME 2

As massive as the "Warcraft" movie might be in terms of budget and hype, it was ultimately the small-to-medium budget horror "The Conjuring 2" that succeeded in attracting moviegoers. "Now You See Me 2" wasn't much of a hit, either.

In Theaters: NOW YOU SEE ME 2, THE CONJURING 2, WARCRAFT, GENIUS

This week in theaters we have two sequels and a video game adaptation. The sequels are "Now You See Me 2" and "The Conjuring 2", and while the former wasn't very liked by critics, the latter is considered a worthy successor to James Wan's scary 2013 horror film.

Fantasy fans and "World of Warcraft" fans in particular are finally able to witness the highly anticipated "Warcraft" movie, which despite harsh reviews from critics appears to be liked by most hard-core fans.

In limited release, check out the biopic "Genius" starring Colin Firth, Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Laura Linney. More about each movie after the jump.

WARCRAFT (2016) - 4 Clips and 6 Featurettes

The highly anticipated "Warcraft" movie has finally arrived in theaters and Universal has released four new clips and six character featurettes.

The film received a lot of harsh reviews from critics who complained that it's a derivative video game adaptation riddled with cliches, narrative problems, subpar acting and an avalanche of fantasy-specific details that will probably alienate anyone who's not already a fan of the game and/or genre.

Directed by Duncan Jones ("Source Code"), the film stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Robert Kazinsky, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Ben Schnetzer, Ruth Negga, Clancy Brown and Daniel Wu.

Directed by Duncan Jones ("Source Code"), the film stars Travis Fimmel as Sir Anduin Lothar and Toby Kebbell as the Orc chieftain Durotan, two leaders who are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home as the two civilizations face off in the peaceful realm of Azeroth.

WARCRAFT Movie Interactive Trailer and New Posters

Legendary Pictures has released an interactive trailer and two new posters for their upcoming "Warcraft" movie. The 360 video titled "Skies of Azeroth" is pretty awesome and was created by Industrial Light and Magic, the company that handled the film's visual effects. A word of warning, though, the video requires Google's Chrome browser to work, so Firefox users may experience issues.

The posters feature the human Sir Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel) and the Orc chieftain Durotan (Toby Kebbell). The film is directed by Duncan Jones ("Source Code") and it also stars Robert Kazinsky, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, Ben Schnetzer, Ruth Negga, Clancy Brown and Daniel Wu.

First WARCRAFT Movie Pictures

While still in production, the first official images from the "Warcraft" movie have been released. The pictures feature one of the film's protagonists, the orc Orgrim (Robert Kazinsky), and some nifty CGI. The visual effects are handled by Industrial Light and Magic and for the orcs, they used Blizzard Entertainment's game concept art to help flesh out the virtual characters. The film is directed by Duncan Jones ("Moon", "Source Code"), and it stars Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel, Ben Schnetzer, Ruth Negga, Toby Kebbel, Clancy Brown and Daniel Wu.

New Games: WORLD OF WARCRAFT: WARLORDS OF DRAENOR (Blizzard) - PC, Mac

First WARCRAFT Movie Posters and Character Details

Universal Pictures is beginning to release new details regarding the upcoming "Warcraft" movie. The first wave consists of two teaser posters and the first official descriptions of the film's characters unveiled at the "World of Warcraft" convention BlizzCon.

The descriptions and posters tease the two factions featured in the Warcraft universe. First we have the Alliance, which consists of humans, dwarves, gnomes, night elves, draenei, worgen and the Tushui Pandaren. I'm not a Warcraft fan, so my knowledge of these creatures pretty much stops at elves. The Alliance is driven by honor and tradition.

The second faction is The Horde, which is made up of Orcs, Forsaken, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves, Goblins and Huojin Pandaren. They are mainly misunderstood and cast aside and they strive to unite as one and win their freedom. Since the Horde is pretty much non-human, the actors will perform their characters via the motion-capture technology used in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes".

Directed by Duncan Jones ("Moon", "Source Code"), the film stars Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel, Ben Schnetzer, Ruth Negga, Toby Kebbel, Rob Kazinsky, Clancy Brown and Daniel Wu.

NEWS UPDATE: New Release Dates, Friday the 13th Reboot, Kubrik's Napoleon, Quentin Tarantino's Next Film

A bunch of new release dates have been announced today:

• Duncan Jones' "Warcraft" movie will be released on March 11, 2016. The release date has been moved from December 18, 2015, because "Star Wars: Episode VII" will be released on that day and it's quite obvious who would come out a winner from that face off.
  
  
• Universal Pictures' remake of "The Mummy" will be released on April 22, 2016. The remake will be directed by Andy Muschietti ("Mama"), produced by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci ("Star Trek") and written by Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus").
  
  
• Director Rob Cohen's "The Boy Next Door", a psychological thriller starring Jennifer Lopez, will be released on January 23, 2015.

This bit of news also qualifies as a release date update, but it's something that deserves a little more writing space. Paramount Pictures has decided that the release date for a new "Friday the 13th" reboot should be March 13, 2015. This would be the 13th installment in the horror franchise. The series has been rebooted before in 2009 by producers Sean S. Cunningham, director of the original, and Michael Bay. While the idea of a second reboot might sound dumb, it's actually something which was expected due to the fact that Paramount picked up the full rights for the Friday the 13th franchise from Warner Bros. in exchange for Warner getting in on "Interstellar", Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi flick. Here is the official announcement which came via Twitter:

Earlier this year it was announced that Steven Spielberg would be picking up Stanley Kubrick's long-developed project, a "Napoleon" biopic, and that the director intends on developing it as a miniseries for HBO. Now it seems that Spielberg and HBO are interested in letting Baz Luhrmann direct it. Luhrmann, whose work includes films like "Romeo + Juliet", "Moulin Rouge" and this year's "The Great Gatsby", seems like an interesting choice and HBO will surely provide a considerable budget for the project. This isn't the only Napoleon Bonaparte project out there. Warner Bros. is also producing a biopic which will be directed by Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman").

Quentin Tarantino has revealed in an interview that his next project will be another Western, but not a sequel to "Django Unchained". The filmmaker had previously stated his intention of creating a "rewritten history" trilogy which would include Django and "Inglorious Basterds". Also, it seems that Tarantino is almost finished writing the script, so we should find out pretty soon what the movie will be about.

"I haven’t told anyone this publicly, but I will say the genre: It’s a western. I had so much fun doing Django, and I love westerns so much that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like 'OK! Let me make another one now that I know what I’m doing'."

NEWS UPDATE: Alice in Wonderland 2, Emily Blunt, Road House Remake, Duncan Jones

Disney has announced the release date for the sequel to Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland". The fantasy film will open in theaters on May 27, 2016. "The Muppets" director James Bobin will replace Burton for the sequel and the script is being written by Linda Woolverton ("Maleficent", "The Lion King"). Mia Wasikowska will reprise the role of Alice and Johnny Depp will also return as the Mad Hatter. "Alice in Wonderland 2" is still in pre-production, so that's all we know, for know.

Emily Blunt ("Looper") is set to star in the psychological thriller "Sister". The film is based on Rosamund Lupton's bestselling (aren't they all) novel "Sister". Blunt will play a woman who "investigates the death of her younger sister Tess, whose death is ruled a suicide by police. Convinced that her sister was murdered, Beatrice sets out to uncover the strange events leading up to Tess’ death, though she may pay a terrible price for the truth." The producers are currently looking for a writer to adapt the book.

Director Rob Cohen ("The Fast and the Furious", "Alex Cross") has been tapped to direct a remake of the 1989 movie "Road House" for MGM. The original starred Patrick Swayze and Kelly Lynch. Swayze played a tough as nails bouncer with a mysterious past who is hired to tame a dirty bar in Missouri. The screenplay for the remake has been written by Michael Stokes ("Iron Eagle IV"). While "Road House" did manage to gather a cult following over the years, I doubt it's going to make a serious impact at the box-office, especially considering MGM's other remake this year, "Carrie" which was based on an even more popular film and a Stephen King novel and it still tanked, and during the Halloween week, no less. So, I really think MGM should be a little more cautious about these remakes.

"Warcraft" director Duncan Jones ("Moon") has dropped out of the Ian Fleming biopic which was supposed to start production last year. The film, titled "Fleming" seems to have hit a bump, and Jones was unable to remain on the project considering he will begin filming on the "Warcraft" adaptation in January 2014. "Fleming" is based on Andrew Lycett’s biography of Ian Fleming, and it's supposed to explore the author's life as a true international spy. The producers are currently searching for a replacement director.

CASTING UPDATE: Colin Farrell, Paula Patton, Vince Vaughn, Hailee Steinfeld, Cate Blanchett and More

The "World of Warcraft" adaptation is moving forward after getting Duncan Jones ("Moon", "Source Code") to direct. While the videogame adaptation is scheduled to begin production sometime around January 2014, reports have begun to surface which indicate that Colin Farrell ("Seven Psychopaths") and Paula Patton ("Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol") are in talks to star in the lead roles. Patton is apparently in advanced negotiations, while Farrell is still considering the offer. "World of Warcraft" is expected to be released in 2015.

Vince Vaughn ("The Internship") and Hailee Steinfeld ("True Grit") are set to star in the action thriller "Term Life", directed by Peter Billingsley ("Couples Retreat"). The film is an adaptation of a graphic novel by A.J. Lieberman and Nick Thornborrow and the script will be written by Lieberman. According to The Wrap, "Vaughn stars as Nick Barrow, who plans and sells heists to the highest bidder but finds himself hunted by mob bosses, contract killers and dirty cops. To help his estranged daughter, Cate (Steinfeld), he takes out a life insurance policy on himself with her as the beneficiary — but he has to stay alive for 21 days, and takes his daughter on the run."

Cate Blanchett ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") will make her directorial debut with "The Dinner", an adpatation of the 2009 book by Herman Koch. The story centers on two couples who meet at a fashionable restaurant for dinner. But, behind the polite conversation and the food lies a terrible subject that the couples need to discuss. Each couple has a fifteen-year-old son and both have been involved in a horrific act that has triggered a police investigation. When the conversation finally touches on their children, the civility and friendship disintegrate, as each couple show just how far they are prepared to go to protect those they love. The script was adapted by Oren Moverman ("The Messenger").

Zachary Quinto ("Star Trek Into Darkness") and Natalie Dormer ("The Tudors") will join the cast of the indie drama "The Girl Who Invented Kissing". The film "follows two brothers whose lives are interrupted when a nameless young drifter walks out of the rain and into their bar." Tom Sierchio writes and directs the film which also stars Stephen Graham ("Boardwalk Empire"), Timothy Simons ("Veep") and Adelaide Clemens ("The Great Gatsby").
