New on DVD and Blu-ray: March 28, 2017

New on DVD and Blu-ray on the week of March 28, 2017, we have the Harry Potter spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", Martin Scorsese's intense meditation on faith "Silence", the Boston Marathon bombing movie "Patriots Day" starring Mark Wahlberg, the R-rated comedy "Why Him?" starring Bryan Cranston and James Franco, the fantasy drama "A Monster Calls", the dramedy "20th Century Women" starring Annette Bening and more.

"Fast & Furious" fans should check out Universal's new "Ultimate Ride" collection featuring all seven films available on both Blu-ray and DVD.

BBC has also released their latest documentary series "Planet Earth 2" on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD.

In the classics department, we have new Blu-ray releases for the horror films "Witchtrap" and "Venom", as well as a brand new collection of "Wishmaster" movies. Other classic films released on Blu-ray/DVD include the drama "The Wanderers, "What's the Matter With Helen?", "Another Man's Poison" starring Better Davis and "Dakota" starring John Wayne

Weekend Box-Office: ROGUE ONE Edges HIDDEN FIGURES

The first weekend of 2017 kicked off with a very tight race between Disney's behemoth "Rogue One" and the biopic "Hidden Figures", which just expanded into wide release this week. Meanwhile new release "Underworld: Blood Wars" scored a low point for the franchise, and the fantasy drama "A Monster Calls" failed to make the Top 10 for its wide release.

In Theaters: UNDERWORLD BLOOD WARS, A MONSTER CALLS, HIDDEN FIGURES, RAILROAD TIGERS

This week in theaters we have two new wide releases, the action sequel "Underworld: Blood Wars" starring Kate Beckinsale and the fantasy drama "A Monster Calls". Also, the Oscar hopeful biopic "Hidden Figures" expands nationwide this weekend. In limited release, Jackie Chan fans should check out the action comedy "Railroad Tigers".

New A MONSTER CALLS Clips, Images and Posters

The fantasy drama "A Monster Calls" tells the story of a 12-year-old boy (Lewis MacDougall) who forms an unlikely bond with an ancient Monster (Liam Neeson) who helps him cope with his mother's (Felicity Jones) illness, his estranged father (Toby Kebbell), a less-than-sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), and bullying classmates.

The film is directed by J.A. Bayona ("The Impossible") from a script by Patrick Ness based on his own novel "A Monster Calls: Inspired by an idea from Siobhan Dowd". Dowd conceived the novel, but because she suffered from terminal cancer herself, she died before she could write it.

"A Monster Calls" opens in theaters on January 6th.

A MONSTER CALLS Trailers and Poster

Based on the book by Patrick Ness, the drama "A Monster Calls" tells the story of a 12-year-old boy (Lewis MacDougall) who finds a way to cope with his mother's illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.

Directed by J.A. Bayona ("The Orphanage", "The Impossible"), the film also stars Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver, Toby Kebbell and Liam Neeson.

"A Monster Calls" opens in theaters on October 21st.
