"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is now in theaters, so here are all the clips, featurettes, images and posters that Disney has released for the film.
The film has been receiving solid reviews from the critics that suggest this is a bold and promising step forward in a new direction for the series. It hasn't quite generated the same insanely positive reactions that
"The Force Awakens" did last year, but it all sounds encouraging, especially considering that it's the first
"Star Wars" film that isn't part of the seven-film (so far) saga and bears no major connection to its characters. The story is set before the events of
"A New Hope" and deals with the Death Star threat. Darth Vader (voiced by
James Earl Jones) will make an appearance in the film for a reported ten minutes of screen time, and the prequel trilogy's Bail Organa (
Jimmy Smits) will also have a small part to play.
It's very important for Disney to get this one right, because if it succeeds on all fronts, it will open up a whole new universe of possibilities for
"Star Wars" spin-offs. And it does look like it may succeed. In fact, the pre-weekend tracking for
"Rogue One" suggests that it may open with a huge $120-150 million, and it could double those numbers internationally for a worldwide debut of $250 million to $300 million, which would qualify it as one of the Top 15 openings of all-time.
Directed by
Gareth Edwards (
"Godzilla"), the film stars
Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, Wen Jiang, Riz Ahmed and
Genevieve O'Reilly
