memorial-day-weekend-box-office-tomorrowland-poltergeist

There were certainly high hopes for Disney's "Tomorrowland", but all of them have now faded as the $190 million blockbuster scored a minor debut which barely topped the box office during a Memorial Day weekend that proved surprisingly slow. The horror remake "Poltergeist" made a decent debut, while "Pitch Perfect 2" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" continue to impress.

Even though "Mad Max: Fury Road" received a very buzz-worthy reception from critics, in the end the reboot was derailed by the sequel "Pitch Perfect 2" which had no problems securing the top spot. In the end though, "Mad Max" still has plenty to be proud of.

in-theaters-avengers-age-of-ultron-far-from-the-madding-crowd-welcome-to-me-hyena

The only wide release this week is Marvel's sequel "Avengers: Age of Ultron". And it makes perfect sense because no other studio would want to compete against that behemoth at the box-office. Still, the limited releases this week are very interesting. The best reviewed film this week is the Thomas Hardy adaptation "Far From the Madding Crowd" starring Carey Mulligan and Matthias Schoenaerts. Other solid limited releases are the dramedy "Welcome to Me" which delivers a riveting performance by Kristen Wiig, and the British crime drama "Hyena". More about each movie after the jump.

new-avengers-age-of-ultron-trailer

A new trailer for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" was unveiled during the NCAA football championship game. It's shorter than a full theatrical trailer but it packs just enough mayhem and destruction, not to mention a few teasers for Marvel comics fans, to make the wait even more unbearable. They also show a bit more of the epic fight scene between the Hulk and Iron Man (inside the famous Hulkbuster armor). Directed by Joss Whedon, the sequel stars Robert Downey Jr., James Spader, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Andy Serkis, Don Cheadle, Cobie Smulders and Paul Bettany.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

avengers-age-of-ultron-extended-trailer

An extended trailer for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has been released online by Marvel. Don't expect this to be a 4-minute trailer, it's actually just slightly extended but it does provide some intriguing new pieces of footage. In this sequel, the Avengers will be faced with the robotic villain Ultron (James Spader), an artificial intelligence created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) that decides humanity needs to be wiped out. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Andy Serkis, Don Cheadle, Cobie Smulders and Paul Bettany.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

The film also stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Andy Serkis, Don Cheadle, Cobie Smulders and Paul Bettany.

avengers-age-of-ultron-teaser-trailer-poster

The first teaser trailer and poster for Joss Whedon's sequel "Avengers: Age of Ultron" have been released. The new installment will pit the Avengers against a new foe, the artificially intelligent Ultron (James Spader), a robot created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in an attempt to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program that has now become a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. The trailer effectively sets the mood for what is going to be a seemingly dark movie and I must say that Ultron appears to be an intriguing villain. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Andy Serkis, Don Cheadle, Cobie Smulders and Paul Bettany.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

Avengers Age of Ultron Official Images First Look

The first official images for Joss Whedon's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" have been released via Entertainment Weekly. The images offer a first look at the film's central characters. The story sets the Avengers in a battle against a new foe, the artificially intelligent robot Ultron, who will be played by James Spader through performance capture technology. The difference in Ultron's origin story will be that the robot is now created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as an Iron Man replacement, because Stark is now "a little burned and traumatized" and is determined to take a break from fighting super-villains.

The sequel also stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.

avengers-age-of-ultron-set-videos-photos-concept-art

As filming for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" continues, we get plenty of sneak peeks at what the movie will look like. Several set photos and videos have appeared online from filming locations in Italy, Johannesburg (South Africa) and Seoul (South Korea). Marvel has also released several concept art images which showcase some of the character designs, including Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor, which I suppose is meant to do exactly what it says, bust the Hulk. The sequel is directed by Joss Whedon and it stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and James Spader.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.
