Although it managed to storm the box-office and had no problem securing the top spot, the sequel "Avengers: Age of Ultron" failed to break any records and even fell short of its predecessor's opening weekend.

FURIOUS 8 Gets 2017 Release Date

It had to happen. It was inevitable. When a film grosses over $1 billion in 17 days, you have to have a sequel. We first heard of "Furious 8" even before part seven opened in theaters, but after it exploded at the box-office, it was only a matter of time before we'd hear a confirmation. And that confirmation has arrived.

Vin Diesel has announced that "Furious 8" will be released on April 14th, 2017. The franchise will obviously take a new direction after Paul Walker's untimely death, but there is currently no information about what they're planning for the sequel. James Wan is not attached to the new installment and probably won't return to direct as he is set to begin work on "The Conjuring 2". Not to mention the rumors according to which Warner Bros. wants him to direct the "Aquaman" movie. Nevertheless, I'm sure we'll hear plenty more in the weeks and months to come.

Weekend Box-Office: PAUL BLART 2 and UNFRIENDED No Match for FURIOUS 7

It's going to be a big weekend for moviegoers because "Furious 7" is finally here. The film has made quite an impression on critics and is looking to be the top movie at the box-office. The other wide release of the week is the true story drama "Woman in Gold" starring Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds which, unfortunately, hasn't scored big marks from critics. Among the limited releases of the week we have the period drama "Effie Gray" starring Dakota Fanning and Emma Thompson, and "Ned Rifle", the final installment in Hal Hartley's indie trilogy. I'm not a football fan, but what I really look forward to when it's time for the Super Bowl are the movie trailers. The expensive advertising campaign results in some unique previews for some of the most highly anticipated films of the year. Why they need to keep shortening the title is beyond me. Anyway, I was pleased to observe that the new film in the series will not be lacking in the spectacular action department. In fact, the stunts are probably crazier than they've ever been. And for a first trailer, it packs in a surprising quantity of action.
