Icons Unearthed Fast And Furious New On Bluray

Product Description: It all began with a magazine article that exposed the world of illegal drag racing in cities across America. Creatives at Universal would make a modest action film featuring drag racing, car modification - and of course, family - from its pages. What should have been a one-off popcorn summer flick followed by a straight-to-video sequel became one of the largest film franchises of all time.

John Cena Picture

WWE Superstar and actor John Cena ("Bumblebee", "Blockers") has been officially confirmed as part of the cast of Universal's upcoming sequel "Fast & Furious 9". This is the first significant casting for the film. Franchise veteran director Justin Lin, who has already helmed four installments in the series, will be back in the director's chair.

There is no information available related to Cena's character, except that he's "a bada**", according to Universal's press release. The screenplay is being written by Dan Casey ("Kin") from a story by Lin. Michelle Rodriguez has also been confirmed to return for the upcoming sequel.

The WWE star's casting is probably meant to fill the void left by the departure of Dwayne Johnson, who is currently headlining the "Fast & Furious" spinoff "Hobbs & Shaw" alongside former franchise villain Jason Statham.

"Fast & Furious 9" is set to be released on May 22, 2020.

Cena's casting was initially teased by Vin Diesel via Instagram in April:

Helen Mirren joins the cast of Fast 8
Academy Award winner Helen Mirren ("The Queen") is the latest addition to the already impressive cast of "Fast 8". Besides the "Fast and Furious" regulars, this eighth installment also features newcomers Charlize Theron ("Mad Max: Fury Road") and Kristofer Hivju ("Game of Thrones"). Here's what Mirren had to say about her role in the franchise:
"[Eye in the Sky] fits in very, very well with what I want to be doing. I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant. I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I’m about to do Fast & Furious 8. But that’s for the fun of it. So maybe that’s what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies.

I’ve always rather loved driving. I said, ‘I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’ But we’ll see. We’ll see how it transpires."

The actress started lobbying for the part last year, when she mentioned in an interview with Yahoo Movies that it was her "great ambition" to star as a villain in a "Fast and Furious" movie and do her own driving. She then went on to praise Vin Diesel, saying that he is "brilliant", "smart" and a "great guy".

"Fast 8" is directed by F. Gary Gray ("Straight Outta Compton") and it will be released on April 14, 2017. If you'd like to check out Mirren's driving credentials, here's a video of the actress doing an interview and a lap on Top Gear in 2008:

Production on "Fast 8" is underway, and the cast and crew are being very generous with the behind-the-scenes videos. We have a look at the locations in Cuba and Iceland, and the latter also features some spectacular snow stunts. Also, someone posted a neat little clip from a scene shot in Cleveland which featured cars being tossed out of a building. From the looks of it, this seventh sequel will top the last one in terms of crazy stunts.

Directed by F. Gary Gray ("Straight Outta Compto"), the film stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron, Dwayne Johnson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ludacris, Jason Statham, and Kurt Russell.

"Fast 8" is set to open in theaters on April 14th, 2017.

After the huge success of "Mad Max: Fury Road", Charlize Theron is ready to shift gears into a different franchise. The actress has closed a deal to star as a villain in Universal's "Fast 8". There are no details available regarding the role, but it is hinted in the official tweet announcing Theron's casting, that the character will be the crew's "greatest adversary".

The eighth installment in the "Fast & Furious" franchise will be directed by F. Gary Gray ("Straight Outta Compton") who has previously worked with Theron on the 2003 action remake "The Italian Job". The sequel also stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Kurt Russell.

"Fast 8" opens in theaters on April 14, 2017.

Vin Diesel announces Furious 8 Release Date
It had to happen. It was inevitable. When a film grosses over $1 billion in 17 days, you have to have a sequel. We first heard of "Furious 8" even before part seven opened in theaters, but after it exploded at the box-office, it was only a matter of time before we'd hear a confirmation. And that confirmation has arrived.

Vin Diesel has announced that "Furious 8" will be released on April 14th, 2017. The franchise will obviously take a new direction after Paul Walker's untimely death, but there is currently no information about what they're planning for the sequel. James Wan is not attached to the new installment and probably won't return to direct as he is set to begin work on "The Conjuring 2". Not to mention the rumors according to which Warner Bros. wants him to direct the "Aquaman" movie. Nevertheless, I'm sure we'll hear plenty more in the weeks and months to come.

Among the limited releases of the week we have the period drama "Effie Gray" starring Dakota Fanning and Emma Thompson, and "Ned Rifle", the final installment in Hal Hartley's indie trilogy.
