2016 DGA Awards Winners Announced

The Directors Guild of America, one of the most important Oscars indicators, announced its winners last night. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won top honors for his work on "The Revenant", a second consecutive win for the director following last years's "Birdman".

It's been a pretty crazy awards season, so far, and quite difficult to predict. The confusing aspect of the Guild awards is that the PGA chose Adam McKay's "The Big Short" as the best film of the year, so that means the Oscar race could split up the Director and Picture awards. "The Big Short", however, never really felt like a huge contender for the Best Picture Oscar, until the PGA awards actually turned it into one. George Miller did seem to have a shot at the Director award, but it now looks like Inarritu jumped ahead of him in the race. I guess time will tell.

The Documentary direction award went to Matthew Heineman for "Cartel Land", and Alex Garland scored a First-Time Feature Film Director win for "Ex Machina". In the TV categories, the DGA winners include "Veep" and "Game of Thrones".

Weekend Box-Office: FURIOUS 7 Fourth Consecutive No.1 Weekend

"Furious 7" is the No. 1 movie at the box-office for a fourth consecutive weekend, while new wide release "The Age of Adaline" makes modest debut.

In Theaters: THE LONGEST RIDE, EX MACHINA, CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA, DESERT DANCER

Nicholas Sparks fans are in for a treat, as the adaptation of the author's romance novel "The Longest Ride" hits theaters this weekend. This is the 11th cinematic adaptation of one of Sparks' novels, and some say it's one of the best, although critics did have some serious bones to pick with it. The more interesting films of the week seem to be in the limited release area. Alex Garland's sci-fi thriller "Ex Machina" is an enticing new release, as is the César-winning drama "Clouds of Sils Maria". Another intriguing limited release is the true story drama "Desert Dancer". More about each film after the jump.

New EX MACHINA Trailer and Poster

A new trailer and poster have been released for the sci-fi drama "Ex Machina". The film stars Domhnall Gleeson as a young programmer who is tasked by his employer (Oscar Isaac) with evaluating the capabilities and consciousness of Ava (Alicia Vikander), an experimental A.I. with an uncharted and possibly dangerous emotional intelligence. Written and directed by Alex Garland ("28 Days Later"), the film has already received some glowing early reviews from critics. It currently holds a score of 92% fresh on Rottentomatoes.com and a Generally Favorable 73 score on Metacritic.

"Ex Machina" opens in theaters on April 10th.

Directed by "28 Days Later" writer Alex Garland, the film stars Domhnall Gleeson as a young programmer who is recruited by an excentric employer (Oscar Isaac) to participate in an artificial intelligence experiment which focuses on Ava (Alicia Vikander) a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated, seductive––and more deceptive––than the two men could have imagined.

"Ex Machina" opens in theaters on April 10th in the U.S. and January 23rd in the U.K.
