Weekend Box-Office: DESPICABLE ME 4 Conquers July 4 Holiday Frame

Universal and Illumination's "Despicable Me 4" exploded at the box-office over the 4th of July weekend and replaced "Inside Out 2" as the weekend box-office champion. The slasher horror "MaXXXine" scored a decent debut, but the faith-based drama "Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot" failed to impress.

Weekend Box-Office: INSIDE OUT 2 Dominates Third Frame While A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE Breaks Franchise Record

It was another big weekend at the box-office as "Inside Out 2" outpaced "Barbie" to $1 billion worldwide, and "A Quiet Place: Day One" scored a franchise-best opening weekend. On the other hand, Kevin Costner's first chapter of his epic western saga "Horizon: An American Saga" tanked in its first weekend.

Weekend Box-Office: INSIDE OUT 2 Dominates With Sensational Sophomore Frame

Pixar continues its record-breaking domination at the box-office as "Inside Out 2" crushed its sophomore weekend. New semi-wide releases over the weekend include "The Bikeriders", "The Exorcism" and "Thelma". Overall it was another great weekend at the box-office, up by more than 31% from the same frame in 2023.

The animated sequel "Inside Out 2" has become the first summer movie to explode at the box-office, beating projections, breaking records and becoming not just the biggest opening of 2024, but the first movie since "Barbie" to open above $100 million.

While the box-office continues to report lackluster earnings, the sequel "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" arrived to bring a breath of fresh air with a plentiful debut. • The horror thrller "In a Violent Nature" which marks the feature directorial debut of Canadian special effects makeup artist Chris Nash. The cast features Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone and Charlotte Creaghan.
• The comedy "Downtown Owl" starring Lily Rabe, Henry Golding, Vanessa Hudgens, Ed Harris, Finn Wittrock and Jack Dylan Grazer. The film is directed by Rabe alongside her real-life partner Hamish Linklater, both making their feature directorial debuts.
