BAFTA Film Awards 2020 Nominations: The Complete List

The nominations for the 2020 British Academy of Film and Television's awards have been announced. "Joker" leads the pack with 11 nominations, followed by "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and "The Irishman" with 10 nods apiece. Sam Mendes' WWI epic "1917", which recently won big at the Golden Globes, scored nine.

The BAFTAs have included a new category this year for Best Casting, the first introduced by the Academy in two decades. The films nominated in this category are "Joker", "Marriage Story", "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", "The Personal History of David Copperfield" and "The Two Popes".

The 73rd BAFTA Film Awards will take place at London's iconic Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, February 2nd, and the ceremony will be hosted by talk show personality Graham Norton.

BOMBSHELL (2019) - Trailers, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Posters

"Bombshell" is a true story drama directed by Jay Roach ("Game Change", "Trumbo") from a script by Charles Randolph ("The Big Short", "The Life of David Gale").

The film focuses on the efforts of several women at Fox News who set out to expose CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment. The cast features Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, John Lithgow, Connie Britton, Kate McKinnon, Malcolm McDowell and Allison Janney.

"Bombshell" opened in limited release on December 13, 2019 and expanded nationwide on December 20, 2019. The film is nominated for two Golden Globe awards for Best Actress (Theron) and Supporting Actress (Robbie).

Weekend Box-Office: STAR WARS RISE OF SKYWALKER Opens to Just $176M, Falling Short of FORCE AWAKENS and LAST JEDI

As expected, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" was the weekend's biggest event, and the film managed to top the charts with an impressive debut. However, Disney might be a bit disappointed by the fact that it's the weakest opening weekend in their sequel trilogy. Meanwhile, Universal's musical "Cats" fell short of expectations and flopped badly.

In Theaters: STAR WARS - THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, CATS and BOMBSHELL

"Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker" has taken the box office by storm with an incredible $40 million from Thursday previews, which is the fifth largest preview gross ever. However, the film has grossed $5 million less than the "The Last Jedi" previews, while "The Force Awakens" raked in $57 million from Thursday previews. The studio is expecting a $160+ million debut from 4,406 theaters for their Skywalker saga capper, which is well below the previous two films' $200+ million opening weekends.

Meanwhile, Universal's "Cats", which has been skewered by critics, brought in a modest $550,000 from previews, and the musical is expected to gross around $15 million from 3,380 theaters over its opening weekend.

The biopic "Bombshell" has expanded nationwide this weekend and will probably end up with around $7 million from 1,480 theaters.

SAG Awards 2020 Nominations: The Complete List

The nominations for the 26th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced Wednesday morning. In the film categories, the major contenders are Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman", and Jay Roach's "Bombshell" with 4 nods a piece. The Korean satire "Parasite" was nominated for best ensemble, becoming only the second foreign-language film to earn a best cast SAG Awards nomination.

On the TV side, last year's comedy winner, Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" leads the pack with four nominations. Meanwhile, "Fleabag", "The Crown", "Stranger Things", "The Morning Show" and "The Kominsky Method" scored three nods each.

Overall Netflix came out on top with 20 nods, including seven for motion pictures, followed by HBO with 10 nominations and Amazon with seven.

Robert De Niro will receive a Life Achievement Award for his work on screen and humanitarian accomplishments.

The 26th annual SAG Awards will air live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
