Rush Hour 4 In The Works At Paramount

The long-gestating sequel "Rush Hour 4" is apparently moving forward with Paramount on board to distribute on behalf of Warner Bros for a double-digit-percent distribution fee. Franchise helmer Brett Ratner is returning to direct, and this would be his first film since 2014's "Hercules".

Ratner's career was pretty much cancelled in 2017 when several women in Hollywood came forward with allegations of misconduct against him. Ratner was accused of sexual assault in 2017 by Melanie Kohler. He sued for defamation, and both sides settled in the fall of 2018, agreeing to move on.

"Rush Hour 4" had a tough time finding a distributor. The project was reportedly being shopped around in 2024, but nobody wanted to be attached to it because of Ratner's reputation. It has also been reported that Donald Trump pressed David Ellison, owner of Paramount SKydance and son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison who was one of Trump's most prominent financial supporters, to revive the "Rush Hour" franchise. Ratner has gotten close to the Trump family while directing a documentary about First Lady Melania Trump for Amazon MGM Studios, which will be released on January 30, 2026. The documentary cost Amazon $40 million to release.

According to sources, Paramount will be paid a flat distribution fee to release "Rush Hour 4" theatrically, and won't market or finance the film. Warner Bros' own label New Line passed on distributing the new sequel, but allowed it to be licensed elsewhere, with Tarak Ben Ammar retaining rights to make the new installment under his Eagle Pictures label, one of Italy's biggest production and distribution companies. In the end, New Line will get first-dollar gross, meaning the studio receives a percentage of box office revenues before the financiers recoup any costs.

The original "Rush Hour" starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker was released in 1998, and was huge hit, grossing $244 million worldwide. It was followed by two sequels: "Rush Hour 2" (2001) and Rush Hour 3" (2007) which grossed $347 million and $258 million, respectively.

Air 2023 Movie Trailers Clips Images Posters

"Air" is a biographical sports drama directed by Ben Affleck from a script by Alex Convery based on the true story of the game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike's fledgling basketball division. The ensemble cast features Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis. The film opened in theaters on April 5, 2023.

Jason Bateman Viola Davis Chris Tucker Nike Movie Ben Affleck Matt Damon

The upcoming biopic directed by Ben Affleck is recruiting an all-star ensemble cast, which so far includes Emmy-winner Jason Bateman, Oscar-winner Viola Davis, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans, Matthew Maher, Chris Messina, Tom Papa and Julius Tennon.

The Amazon Prime Video movie stars Matt Damon as maverick sneaker salesman and former Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro, who relentlessly pursued basketball legend Michael Jordan in the mid-'80s. Affleck will also star as Nike co-founder Phil Knight. Affleck and Damon also worked together on the script, which was penned by Alex Convery and named to the 2021 Black List of the best unproduced screenplays. This is their third writing collaboration since 2021's "The Last Duel" and the Oscar-winning 1997 script for "Good Will Hunting".

The movie will focus on Nike's long-shot effort to sign Jordan to the shoe company, an endorsement that seemed impossible at the time, but would become the most significant relationship between an athletic brand and an athlete. The strategic partnership helped launch the global, multibillion-dollar contemporary sneaker industry.

Bateman will star as Rob Strasser, Vaccaro's boss and longtime Nike executive, who was instrumental in the company's efforts to sign, and later promote, Jordan as he oversaw the company's marketing and messaging.

Davis will play Jordan's mother Deloris, who had enormous influence on the basketball legend's decision to sign the deal. Tucker has signed on to play Howard White, a junior executive in Nike's fledgling basketball department who served as the day-to-day connection with its roster of NBA players following his time as a college basketball player for the University of Maryland.

Wayans joins the cast as George Raveling, the trailblazing college basketball coach who was the first Black coach in both the ACC and the PAC 10. Raveling met and befriended Jordan while serving as an assistant coach on the 1984 gold medal-winning U.S. Men's Olympic basketball team. Raveling was a dear friend of Vaccaro's, and with Sonny's prodding, first introduced the idea of signing with Nike to Jordan.

Maher will play Peter Moore, the legendary designer for Nike, and later Adidas, who was behind designs for the first Air Jordan sneakers, in addition to the iconic "Wings" and "Jumpman" logos for the Air Jordan brand.

Messina stars as David Falk, Jordan's original agent, who is credited with coming up with the name "Air Jordan". Papa will play Stu Inman, while Tennon joins the cast as Jordan's father James.

Production started on Monday in Los Angeles. The film will premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

After winning the Academy Award for Best Director with "Life of Pi" in 2013, Ang Lee returns with the war drama "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk".

Based on the novel written by Ben Fountain, the film tells the story of 19-year-old Billy Lynn (Joe Alwyn), who is brought home after a harrowing Iraq battle and celebrated alongside his squadmates as heroes during the halftime show of a Thanksgiving Day football game. In the meantime, flashbacks reveal what really happened to his squad, contrasting the realities of the war with America's perceptions. Vin Diesel, Kristen Stewart, Chris Tucker, Garrett Hedlund and Steve Martin co-star.

Lee promises a ground-breaking experience as the film is shot at 120 frames per second in 4K native 3D that will offer moviegoers an unprecedented experience in terms of realism and visual detail. Even from the brief snippets of footage from the trailer, it looks visually stunning. Here's what Kristen Stewart had to say about Lee's ground-breaking technique:
"An insanely high frame rate would give you like a slow motion effect, but if you put it in real time you’re just getting more information than we’re used to. But usually if you do that without whatever process he’s doing—which I have no idea—it makes it look like reality TV, it makes it crisp in a way that actually detaches you. [But] he messes with depth of field and makes this 3D situation where—usually the way a lens works, you control where the focal point is, [but] in this case everything’s in focus… So when you watch the movie you can decide, almost as if you’re there in person, what you want to look at, which has just never been seen before on film."
"Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" opens in theaters on November 11th.

Ang Lee's Iraq War satire "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" continues to round up a very interesting cast. After last week we got news that Kristen Stewart had been cast, we now have an announcement that Vin Diesel and Chris Tucker have just joined the project. The film is based on the novel by Ben Fountain which focuses on the members of a squad, who after surviving a horrible firefight in Iraq, become involved in an absurd media circus which involves a "Victory Tour" at Texas Stadium. The story takes place over the course of a single day with flashbacks providing further narrative detail. The ensemble, so far, also includes Garrett Hedlund and Steve Martin. "Slumdog Millionaire" scribe Simon Beaufoy will pen the adaptation. The film will be shot in Ultra High Frame Rate 3D, which is curious for this kind of movie, but it also could be a sign that the "Life of Pi" director is preparing something special.
