Nicolas Cage To Play Dracula In Universal's RENFIELD Movie

Nicolas Cage is set to star as Dracula in Universal Pictures' upcoming monster movie "Renfield". The film will be directed by Chris McKay ("The Tomorrow War") from a script by Ryan Ridley ("Rick and Morty") based on an original story outline from Robert Kirkman.

Nicholas Hoult will star as the titular character, Dracula's infamous acolyte and henchman, who in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel was an inmate at a lunatic asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions that compelled him to eat live creatures in the hopes of obtaining immortality, until it was revealed that he was actually under the influence of the vampire count. An origin story, the upcoming film is expected to take place in the present day, but it's not clear how faithful it will be to the source material

The movie is part of the studio's attemt to revive their monster movie franchise through several low-cost projects like "The Invisible Man" starring Elisabeth Moss. Other projects in the works include "Invisible Woman" directed by Elizabeth Banks and "Wolfman" starring Ryan Gosling.

"Renfield" will be produced by Skybound Entertainment's film team, including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. McKay's producing partner Samantha Nisenboim will serve as an executive producer.

Cage will also be seen in Lionsgate's "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" in which he plays a fictionalized version of himself as a cash-strapped actor who also acts as a CIA informant in a drug sting.

in-search-of-dracula-1974-new-on-bluray

Product Description: Brand New 2K Master! The blood-curdling truth behind the legendary vampire! Nestled in the Carpathian Mountains of the Transylvanian region of Romania is the castle that once was the stronghold of Vlad Dracula. Indeed, Dracula did exist, but unlike the blood-sucking monster of popular myth, the real Dracula was a fifteenth-century prince who tortured and killed thousands—savagely impaling his victims on sharpened spikes. Christopher Lee (Horror of Dracula, Scars of Dracula, Taste the Blood of Dracula) traces the roots of the Dracula legend back to their horrifying historical origins. Based on the best-selling book by Raymond T. McNally and Radu Florescu, In Search of Dracula exposes the fictional monster and his real-life counterpart, “Vlad the Impaler,” while also showing for the first time on film the infamous Borgo Pass, vampire bats feasting on blood and exorcism rites for the undead. Directed by Calvin Floyd (Terror of Frankenstein, The Sleep of Death).

satanic-rites-of-dracula-1973-new-on-blu-ray

Product Description: A dying man’s report of a ritual black mass stirs Britain’s security chief into action, and a mansion filled with young vampire girls is soon discovered. And this is but the first twist in a labyrinth of horror. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee pair up for the final Hammer Dracula in this follow-up to Dracula A.D. 1972. In this go-round, the Count (Christopher Lee, naturally) follows a more pulpish, super-villainous playbook, posing as a millionaire industrialist alive and well and living in London while secretly brewing up a batch of super-plague in a quest to destroy the world. Mixing Satanists, spies and sci-fi, the film makes viewers glad that Peter Cushing is on hand to solidly anchor the more outré elements as the effortlessly expositioning Dr. Van Helsing. Lee, in turn, has more dialogue as Dracula than was the norm, and rachets up the evil to the nth degree. Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous) costars. Also known as Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride.
