Dumplin' is a comedy directed by Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal") from a script by Kristin Hahn (the 1997 documentary "Anthem") based on the novel of the same name written by Julie Murphy.
The film tells the story of plus-size teenager Willowdean Dickson (Danielle Macdonald), nicknamed "Dumplin" by her mother (Jennifer Aniston) who was a former beauty queen. Willowdean signs up for her mom's pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town. Odeya Rush, Maddie Baillio, Harold Perrineau and Kathy Najimy co-star.
The film also features six new songs written and performed by country star Dolly Parton, and six re-recordings of her older hits. She is joined on soundtrack by Elle King, Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Sia, Macy Gray and Willa Amai. Parton's song "Girl in the Movies" is nominated for a Golden Globe. Find out more about the soundtrack here.
