Box-Office: BAD BOYS FOR LIFE Tops Super Bowl Weekend

Not surprisingly, "Bad Boys For Life" dominated the Super Bowl weekend and topped the charts for a third consecutive weekend. Meanwhile, new releases "Gretel & Hansel" and "The Rhythm Section" struggled in their opening weekends, with the latter delivering a record worst debut.

In Theaters: GRETEL & HANSEL, THE RHYTHM SECTION and THE ASSISTANT

It looks like Sony's "Bad Boys For Life" will dominate yet another weekend as this week's new releases won't prove to be much competition. The war epic "1917" will also hold in second place.

The first new arrival is the PG-13 Brothers Grimm-inspired fantasy horror film "Gretel & Hansel" starring Sophia Lillis ("It"). The film has been released in 3,007 theaters and could finish the weekend somewhere between $7-10 million. Word-of-mouth would help, but so far, with a 12% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, it doesn't look like the film is making a good impression.

Also out in theaters this weekend is the action film "The Rhythm Section" starring Blake Lively. The film isn't a hit with critics, and the audience reception is pretty rough, as well. Paramount is expecting a $4-7 million debut over the weekend from 3,049 theaters. With a $50 million price tag, the film will be a bonafide flop.

In limited release it might be worth checking out the drama "The Assistant" starring Julia Garner and Matthew Macfadyen.

"Gretel & Hansel" is a fantasy horror film directed by Oz Perkins ("I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House") from a script by Rob Hayes ("Chewing Gum") based on the German folklore tale by The Brothers Grimm.

The story is set a long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside and focuses on a young girl (Sophia Lillis) who leads her little brother (Sam Leakey) into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to end up kidnapped by an evil witch (Alice Krige).

"Gretel & Hansel" opened in theaters on January 31, 2020.

Today we have new trailers for:

• The highly anticipated horror sequel "A Quiet Place: Part II". The new installment is once again directed by John Krasinski and it stars Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. Cillian Murphy ("Dunkirk" and Djimon Hounsou ("Shazam!") join the cast.
• The Puerto Rican road-trip drama "Ana" starring Dafne Keen ("Logan") and Andy Garcia. The film is directed by Emmy-winning TV helmer Charles McDougall ("Desperate Houswives", "Sex and the City") from a script by "Mad Dogs" series creator Cris Cole.
• The dark fantasy thriller "Gretel & Hansel" based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Directed by horror filmmaker Osgood "Oz" Perkins (son of the late "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins), the film stars Sophia Lillis ("It"), Sammy Leakey and Alice Krige ("Star Trek: First Contact").

• The highly anticipated final installment in the "Bad Boys" franchise. "Bad Boys for Life" is directed by Belgian filmmaking duo Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, and it stars Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Kate del Castillo and Joe Pantoliano.
• The stripper dramedy "Hustlers" starring Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Cardi B, Lizzo and Julia Stiles. Directed by "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" screenwriter Lorene Scafaria, the film is based on true events and inspired by the New York Magazine article "The Hustlers at Scores" by journalist Jessica Pressler.
• The legal drama "Just Mercy" based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by lawyer Bryan Stevenson. Co-written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ("Short Term 12"), the film stars Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, Rafe Spall, Tim Blake Nelson and O'Shea Jackson Jr.
• The Netflix original movie "Between Two Ferns: The Movie" based on Zach Galifianakis' Emmy award-winning talk show spoof series of the same name. The movie is directed and co-written by Scott Aukerman ("Comedy Bang! Bang!") and Galifianakis leads a cast that also includes Will Ferrell, Lauren Lapkus, Jiavani Linayao, Ryan Gaul and Paul Rust, as well as a huge list of celebrity cameos.
• The dark fantasy thriller "Gretel & Hansel" that offers a creepy new twist on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. The film hails from horror filmmaker Osgood "Oz" Perkins (son of late "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins), and it stars Sophia Lillis ("It"), Sammy Leakey ("MotherFatherSon"), Alice Krige ("Star Trek: First Contact") and Jessica De Gouw ("Arrow").
• The horror comedy "The Drone" from the makers of "Zombeavers and "Critters: A New Binge".
