weekend-box-office-dreamworks-home-get-hard

It was a good weekend for both the PG-rated animated family film "Home" and the R-rated comedy "Get Hard". Both films opened strongly in first and second place, respectively, with plenty of good business left over for last week's No. 1 movie "Insurgent" and Disney's "Cinderella". Also, the indie horror film "It Follows" made a spectacular entry into the top 10.

box-office-insurgent-top-movie-gunman-flops

The weekend was dominated by "Insurgent", the newest installment in the "Divergent" franchise, but even if it managed to top the box-office, it didn't exactly perform as well as expected. Meanwhile, Sean Penn's action star debut "The Gunman" flopped.

in-theaters-insurgent-the-gunman-do-you-believe-accidental-love

Apart from the Young Adult adaptation "Insurgent", a sequel to last year's "Divergent", and the Sean Penn action vehicle "The Gunman", the week is pretty quiet in terms of new releases. Two other attention-grabbing new releases are the faith-based drama "Do You Believe ?" and the limited release of the David O. Russell romantic comedy "Accidental Love" which was actually disavowed by the director after a very troubled production (more details on that here). Even worse is that none of these movies are any good, according to the critics. Read more about each movie after the jump.

Insurgent movie clips

Six new clips have been released for the "Divergent" sequel "Insurgent". The film has been receiving bad reviews from critics who point out that it's neither original nor engrossing, despite best efforts from its cast and the filmmakers' obvious technical skill. The sequel is rated 34% rotten on Rottentomatoes.com, quite a step down from the 41% of "Divergent". Based on Veronica Roth's novel and directed by Robert Schwentke ("RED"), the film stars Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer, Zoe Kravitz, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jai Courtney, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Daniel Dae Kim, Ray Stevenson and Octavia Spencer.

Sneak peek featurette for Insurgent starring Shailene Woodley

A behind-the-scenes featurette and 5 international character posters have been released for "Insurgent", the sequel to last year's "Divergent". The featurette offers a pretty detailed description of the film's plot and what fans can expect from this sequel. Producer Douglas Wick very briefly sums up the new installment: "In Divergent we created a world, in Insurgent we're going to tear it up.". Somehow he's perfectly described exactly what I love in an action movie. The film stars Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer, Zoe Kravitz, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jai Courtney, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Daniel Dae Kim, Ray Stevenson and Octavia Spencer.

"The Divergent Series: Insurgent" opens in theaters on March 20, 2015.

New trailer, poster and images for Insurgent starring Shailene Woodley

A new trailer, poster and four images has been released for the "Divergent" sequel "Insurgent", the second of the four-film series based on Veronica Roth's young adult sci-fi books. If you're new to the franchise, this trailer won't mean much, but it does feature some interesting visuals. The story follows Tris (Shailene Woodley) as she searches for allies and answers to the mystery of her past in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago while being hunted by Jeanine (Kate Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. The cast also features Ansel Elgort, Theo James, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer, Zoe Kravitz, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jai Courtney, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Daniel Dae Kim, Ray Stevenson and Octavia Spencer.

"The Divergent Series: Insurgent" opens in theaters on March 20, 2015.

insurgent-teaser-trailer-poster-shailene-woodley

The first official teaser trailer and poster for "Insurgent", the sequel to "Divergent", have been released. The trailer will probably make more sense to fans of the books, but I'll admit it looks intriguing. I love the surreal vibe, even though I have no idea what it's all about. The sequel follows Tris (Shailene Woodley) as she searches for allies and answers to the mystery of her past in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago while being hunted by Jeanine (Kate Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. The film also stars Ansel Elgort, Theo James, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer, Zoe Kravitz, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jai Courtney, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Daniel Dae Kim, Ray Stevenson and Octavia Spencer.

"The Divergent Series: Insurgent" opens in theaters on March 20, 2015 (in 3D).

insurgent-posters-shailene-woodley

The eight posters for "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" that were released a few days ago in interactive form have now appeared online in their regular one-sheet form. I prefer these simpler images, because the motion posters felt a bit lacking, honestly. The posters feature Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Theo James, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Mekhi Phifer, Zoe Kravitz and Keiynan Lonsdale. Jai Courtney, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Daniel Dae Kim, Ray Stevenson and Octavia Spencer also star. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke ("R.E.D.").

"The Divergent Series: Insurgent" opens in theaters on March 20, 2015 (in 3D).
