Weekend Box-Office: ALLEGIANT Makes Disappointing Debut

"Zootopia" still has no rival at the box-office as "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" underperformed in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Christian drama "Miracles from Heaven" made a solid debut.

This week in theaters, fans of the "Divergent" franchise can join Shailene Woodley on a new adventure in "Allegiant", although the film has received some pretty bad reviews. If sci-fi isn't your thing, the other new wide release of the week is the faith-based drama "Miracles From Heaven" starring Jennifer Garner. That one has some better reviews. In limited release, your choice lies between either the highly acclaimed sci-fi thriller "Midnight Special", or the pretty lousy R-rated comedy "The Bronze". More about each movie after the jump.

5 New Clips from ALLEGIANT Starring Shailene Woodley

Lionsgate has released five new clips for "The Divergent Series: Allegiant". The film is now in theaters and has been mauled by critics. It now stands at a franchise-low score of just 10% on Rottentomatoes.com and that same lack of enthusiasm will probably be felt at the box-office this weekend, as well.

Directed by Robert Schwentke ("Insurgent"), the film stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim and Naomi Watts.

ALLEGIANT Featurette, 32 Pictures and 2 Posters

Today we have a new behind-the-scenes featurette, thirty-two images and two posters for "The Divergent Series: Allegiant". The sequel directed by Robert Schwentke ("Insurgent") is the first of a two-part finale that will end next year with "Ascendant". Summit and Lionsgate have released the final trailer and seven posters for "The Divergent Series: Allegiant". A new trailer and five posters for "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" have been released online. This is the first part of the series finale which is set to conclude with the fourth film titled "Ascendant" on March 24, 2017. This sequel takes us beyond Chicago's enclosing wall where Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) are confronted with shocking new truths that threatens all of humanity.

The film also stars Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim and Naomi Watts.

The film focuses on the first half of Veronica Roth's last book in the series, and it will be followed by the final chapter, titled "Ascendant", which opens in theaters on March 24, 2017.

In "Allegiant", Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) travel outside of Chicago's enclosing wall, where our heroes are confronted with shocking new truths as a new battle that threatens all of humanity is ignited.

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT Teaser Trailer and Posters

The teaser trailer and poster for "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" have been released online. There is also another teaser poster released for the next and final chapter in the Divergent series, now titled "Ascendant".

The current installment is based on the first half of Veronica Roth's last book in the series which finds Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) venturing into the world outside of the fence that encloses Chicago and being taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.

The film also stars Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim and Naomi Watts.

Naomi Watts to Star in DIVERGENT Sequels

Naomi Watts ("The Impossible") has signed on to star in "Insurgent", the sequel to the young adult adaptation "Divergent" which was released this year. Watts will star as Evelyn, leader of the Factionless. According to her contract, the actress wil also star in the franchise's two final movies, "Allegiant – Part 1" and "Allegiant – Part 2". "Insurgent" is directed by Robert Schwentke ("RED") and also stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller and Octavia Spencer. Filming has already begun last week in Atlanta and is supposed to wrap in September. The script is written by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman. "Insurgent" opens in theaters on March 20, 2015.
