"Peppermint" is a revenge thriller directed by Pierre Morel ("Taken") from a script by Chad St. John ("London Has Fallen"). The film stars Jennifer Garner as a young mother whose husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack and she spends years in hiding honing her mind, body and spirit to become an unstoppable force, eluding the underworld, the LAPD and the FBI as she methodically delivers her personal brand of justice.

The film also stars John Gallagher Jr., John Ortiz, Juan Pablo Raba, Annie Ilonzeh, Richard Cabral and Method Man.

"Peppermint" opened in theaters on September 7, 2018 and received negative reviews from critics. The film is expected to gross around $10 million from 2,980 theaters in its opening weekend.

In Theaters: INSURGENT, THE GUNMAN, DO YOU BELIEVE ?, ACCIDENTAL LOVE

Apart from the Young Adult adaptation "Insurgent", a sequel to last year's "Divergent", and the Sean Penn action vehicle "The Gunman", the week is pretty quiet in terms of new releases. Two other attention-grabbing new releases are the faith-based drama "Do You Believe ?" and the limited release of the David O. Russell romantic comedy "Accidental Love" which was actually disavowed by the director after a very troubled production (more details on that here). 6 New Clips for THE GUNMAN Starring Sean Penn and Javier Bardem

Pierre Morel's "The Gunman" opens today in theaters and we have six new clips from the action thriller. The film stars Sean Penn in what is designed to be an action vehicle for the 54-year-old actor, the same as "Taken" was for Liam Neeson. Unfortunately, critics don't seem to be taken with Penn's new movie which scored a 15% rating on Rottentomatoes.com. Many critics are calling the movie a misfire that fails to measure up to the veteran actor's talent. Most frequently cited failures include dull set pieces and a muddled narrative. The film also stars Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Jasmine Trinca and Mark Rylance.

New THE GUNMAN Trailers and Posters

Two new trailers and three character posters have been released for director Pierre Morel's "The Gunman". Morel is famous for directing Liam Neeson in "Taken" and now he appears determined to turn Sean Penn into an international action star through the same trademark formula. Penn stars as a former special forces soldier turned mercenary who must confront his former bosses when he decides to quit his job. The film also stars Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Jasmine Trinca and Mark Rylance. And, yes, it looks like someone will get taken.

"The Gunman" opens in theaters on March 20, 2015.

THE GUNMAN Trailer: Sean Penn and Javier Bardem Face Off

The first trailer for the action thriller "The Gunman" has been released. The film is directed by Pierre Morel ("Taken") an it stars Sean Penn as a hitman who must clear his name in order to save himself from the organization that he used to work for. Javier Bardem stars as Penn's colleague who becomes his enemy and he appears to deliver a wonderfully over-the-top performance. Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Jasmine Trinca and Mark Rylance also star.

"The Gunman" opens in theaters on March 20, 2015.

New Images: DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, THE GUNMAN, THE ZERO THEOREM, DIVERGENT

New images have been released for the following movies :

• The first official image from "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", the sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", starring Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Opens on July 18, 2014.
  
  
• The first image of Sean Penn in the thriller "The Gunman" (also known as "Prone Gunman") directed by Pierre Morel ("Taken"). The film also stars Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone and Jasmine Trinca. No release date announced.
  
  
• The first three images from Terry Gilliam's sci-fi fantasy film "The Zero Theorem" starring Christoph Waltz, Matt Damon, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Peter Stormare and David Thewlis. The film will be released in 2014.

Paramount Abandons 'Dune' Adaptation

Yet another movie has ceased to exist. Paramount Pictures' adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune" has been derailed as the studio has lost the rights to the novel. Called in to direct was Pierre Morel ("Taken"), after Peter Berg had left the project to work on "Battleship". Even though Morel and screenwriter Chase Palmer had delivered a script that efficiently condensed Herbert's novel to feature length, it seems Paramount was still too scared to commit to a budget that could have very well exceeded $100M. The rights may still be acquired by some other studio, but as of now, the prospects of a fresh 'Dune' adaptation seem bleak.
