box-office-the-revenant

Nobody expected "The Revenant" to pose any threat to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", but the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer made an aggressive debut and while it wasn't enough to take first place, it was nevertheless impressive. The new release "The Forest" also performed quite well for a small budget horror in January.

the-hateful-eight-movie-clips

Today we have eight new clips for Quentin Tarantino's new film "The Hateful Eight", which is now in theaters. Reviews have been generous to Tarantino's western, which is not unusual, although the average rating is somewhat smaller than that of his other films. The humor and over-the-top violence are all there and the cast is amazing, so it's a must-see.

The film stars Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Zoë Bell, James Parks and Channing Tatum.

"The Hateful Eight" opens in theaters on December 25th.

It was easy to anticipate that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would hold on at the top and that it would probably break more records, but the OverAchiever of the Week Award goes to the comedy "Daddy's Home" which managed to break out into second place with an impressive result, while other new releases struggled within expectations.

Today we have a new trailer, featurette and poster for Quentin Tarantino's western "The Hateful Eight".

The highly anticipated project was shot in 70mm, and the featurette offers an interesting history of 70mm projection and roadshows. The Weinstein Company is working hard to retrofit theaters to support the format, but not everyone will be able to see it as the director intended. Still, it's very cool that Tarantino took the chance to give us some old school filmmaking and hopefully it will pay off.

The film stars Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Zoë Bell, James Parks and Channing Tatum.

"The Hateful Eight" opens in theaters on December 25th.

First The Hateful Eight Pictures

The first images from Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" have been released via Entertainment Weekly. Tarantino's new western tells the story of the passengers of a stagecoach, hurtling through the wintry Wyoming landscape, who are forced by a blizzard to seek refuge at Minnie's Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. The passengers are bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff.

Tarantino spoke to EW about the movie and how it's closing the circle that he started with "Reservoir Dogs":
"For me it has more of a Western Iceman Cometh kind of vibe about it ... A bunch of guys in a room who can't trust each other. That wasn't a marching order when I sat down to write the script, but pretty quickly I realized this is kind of a nice coming-full-circle."
The film also stars Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Bruce Dern, Zoë Bell and Michael Madsen. "The Hateful Eight" is expected to open in theaters later this year.

Channing Tatum to star in The Hateful Eight
Demian Bichir
Quentin Tarantino's new film, the western "The Hateful Eight" is being prepared for filming in January, and The Weinstein Company has released the film's official synopsis as well as some new interesting details. First of all, Channing Tatum ("Magic Mike") and Demian Bichir ("A Better Life") have signed on to star. Secondly, while Tarantino's script was leaked online some months ago, it seems that the writer/director has rewritten the film's third act which will be completely different.

"The Hateful Eight" is set sometime after the Civil War and follows the adventures of a group of stagecoach passengers as they hurtle through a wintry Wyoming landscape. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern. Filming will take place entirely in Colorado and the picture will be shot on 65mm film. Until then, here is the official synopsis:
The Hateful Eight Poster
"In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…"
