box-office-the-revenant-dirty-grandpa-the-boy-the-5th-wave

"The Revenant" continues to lead at the box-office despite the bout of bad weather that struck the East Coast. Meanwhile, new arrivals "Dirty Grandpa", "The 5th Wave" and "The Boy", performed modestly well.

box-office-report-ride-along-2-the-revenant

"Ride Along 2" and "The Revenant" lead the charts while "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" finally took a step back. Still, Disney's behemoth managed to cross $1 billion internationally. Also, Michael Bay sort of flopped.

box-office-the-revenant

Nobody expected "The Revenant" to pose any threat to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", but the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer made an aggressive debut and while it wasn't enough to take first place, it was nevertheless impressive. The new release "The Forest" also performed quite well for a small budget horror in January.

star-wars-force-awakens-box-office-crosses-700-million-domestically

With the first weekend of 2016 behind us, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is really close to becoming the highest grossing domestic release in history, without accounting for inflation, of course. Meanwhile, "The Hateful Eight" did okay as it expanded nationwide.

box-office-star-wars-force-awakens-daddys-home

It was easy to anticipate that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would hold on at the top and that it would probably break more records, but the OverAchiever of the Week Award goes to the comedy "Daddy's Home" which managed to break out into second place with an impressive result, while other new releases struggled within expectations.

star-wars-force-awakens-box-office-breaks-records

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" fulfilled Disney's prophecy and devastated the box-office with the strength of a thousand Death Stars. Or just a new bigger one. It broke all possible records, and only one may, or may not be left in contention. So it came to be that no other movie was allowed to make money over the weekend, although, somehow, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip" and "Sisters" managed to get some.

in-theaters-star-wars-force-awakens-sisters-alvin-chipmunks-road-chip-son-of-saul

Although there are three new wide releases in theaters this week, only one really matters, "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens". Disney's behemoth is already looking to break the single day opening box-office record, so very little is left for the Tina Fey & Amy Poehler comedy "Sisters", or the family flick "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip". If, however, you feel like seeing something darker than your average blockbuster fare, maybe you can catch the Foreign Film awards-favorite Holocaust drama "Son of Saul" which is now in limited release. More about each movie after the jump.

Star Wars The Force Awakens First TV Spot and New Image

The first TV spot and a new image for "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" have appeared online. The image provides a look at an impressively large gathering of First Order troops, and that same sequence is also briefly shown in the TV spot. The First Order is all that's left of the once mighty Empire and they look ready to take back what they've lost under the leadership of Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie). Of course the plot is still a big secret for now and everyone is still waiting for the full trailer which will probably reveal a bit more.

The film also stars Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong'o, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Vanity Fair Photos Offer new Character Reveals

Yesterday, with the occasion of Star Wars Day, Vanity Fair released some photos from its new issue which focused on J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens". The images offered some interesting character portraits which included Adam Driver's Kylo Ren, Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron. There's also a shot of Lupita Nyong'o wearing motion capture gear which clearly suggests that she will be playing a CGI character. There are no more story details available at this point, leaving everyone eager to speculate as to what Abrams is preparing with this sequel. Needless to say, the hype surrounding this movie is incredibly high.

The film also stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.

matthew-mcconaughey-reacts-to-star-wars-teaser-trailer

A wave of emotion has struck the Internet with the release of the second trailer for J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Unleashed". Few other franchises elicit such reactions from fans, so it's no wonder that Matthew McConaughey himself fell apart while watching the new teaser. The clip is actually a mix of one of McConaughey's emotional scenes from "Interstellar" with images from the "Star Wars" teaser. And it's very funny, because it's true. The video was created by director and filmmaker Óskar Arnarson. And if you want to watch the "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Unleashed" trailer, click here. Enjoy !

New Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer, Poster and Images

This weekend the new trailer for J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" has set the Internet on fire. The unveiling of the second teaser was accompanied by the first teaser poster and a rich collection of images, mostly stills from the trailer, as well as photos of the cast from the recent Star Wars Celebration panel. The trailer offers many new details for fans to disect, as well as a better first look at the film's cast.

Some new details regarding the plot have also been revealed at the Celebration panel. The most notable being that after the end of the war against the Empire, there's a new conflict brewing between the Resistance (former Rebels) and the First Order, a remnant of the old Empire. It's only fair to assume that there are still forces out there loyal to the Sith and the murdered Emperor. The story will take place thirty years after the end of "Return of the Jedi". The film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Characters Revealed

After the release of the first teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", the fans have been working hard to make sense of the few scenes included in the trailer. I think Stephen Colbert completely nailed the lightsaber topic (Check it out here). But now we are getting more information about the sequel through some old-school trading cards released online (via Entertainment Weekly) which reveal the names of the main characters. The cast features John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

star-wars-force-awakens-trailer-images

This is the moment fans around the world have been waiting for. The first trailer for J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been released along with five new images. Although the title doesn't mention what episode it is, it's Episode VII in the series, a sequel to the original trilogy and it will take place 22 years after the events from "Return of the Jedi". The plot is a mystery so far and the teaser only features an ominous narration by Andy Serkis which is wonderfully cryptic. I suppose we'll witness yet another return of the Sith. The trailer also gives us a first look at the Millennium Falcon evading some TIE Fighters, a somewhat new X-Wing charging into battle and a rather impractical Sith lightsaber design. The sequel stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters on December 18th, 2015.
