Shredded Horror Movie From Quiet Place Purge Producers

Logical Pictures Group and Protagonist Pictures have announced that they will begin international sales at the upcoming European Film Market on "Shredded", a bold, high-concept horror feature produced by Platinum Dunes, the company behind "A Quiet Place" and "The Purge" franchises. Protagonist will co-rep international rights with newly launched Logical Pictures International (LPI), and UTA Independent Film Group will represent North American rights. Logical Pictures Group provides full financing for the film as well.

The film has been described as a "viscerally entertaining crowd-pleaser" that "fuses relentless suspense with viciously sharp commentary, delivering nonstop chills and an unflinching look at the darker side of modern fitness culture and self-obsession". Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Josh Lawson ("The Eleven O'Clock", "The Little Death", "Long Story Short"), the film is a propulsive thrill ride that pushes toxic gym culture to terrifying extremes - an electric descent into diabolical mayhem where brains prove far more valuable than brawn.

The story follows Eileen, who is reeling from a breakup and signs up for an intense gym class run by a charismatic but deranged coach. When she quits the program, he abducts her and imprisons her in his sadistic training compound, forcing her — and other captives — through punishing, often lethal workouts. As the physical toll mounts, Eileen must outwit the coach's vicious regimen and turn his obsession with control and perfection against him before it's too late.

The film is produced by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Alex Ginno for Platinum Dunes, and Jeff Golenberg for Strand Entertainment. Executive Producers include Frédéric Fiore, Ryan Wickers and Andrei Kamarowsky for Logical Pictures Group, alongside Dave Bishop, James Pugh and George Hamilton for Protagonist Pictures, and Troy Lum.

Platinum Dunes said in a statement: "Josh has crafted a deeply personal story that brings the horror directly into the audience's lives. He's the kind of filmmaker Platinum Dunes is built around – a writer/director with a clear point of view and a sharp instinct for delivering a twisted, crowd-pleasing ride. After Shredded, audiences won’t look at gym equipment — or those wall-length mirrors — the same way again. We're beyond excited to support him in bringing it to life with Protagonist and Logical as partners."

Andrei Kamarowsky, Head of International at Logical Pictures Group, added: "Platinum Dunes has an extraordinary track record of creating iconic horror, and we're thrilled to be joining Shredded and collaborating with our partners at Protagonist on this exciting new project".

Protagonist Pictures' CEO Dave Bishop said: "Shredded is a high concept horror as brutal and unapologetically intense as the ultimate workout from hell. We're thrilled to be partnering with Platinum Dunes on this bold and timely white-knuckle ride. Tapping directly into contemporary anxieties around control, self-obsession and self-improvement, Shredded is set to put worldwide theatrical audiences through their paces".

the-purge-election-year-movie-clips

"The Purge: Election Year" continues the insane horror saga created by James DeMonaco. The critics, however, still aren't impressed. To be fair, the reviews tend to be generally mixed, rather than negative, which is certainly better than you can hope for a genre flick like this, especially when talking about the third installment in a series.

Critics still take issue with the film's central premise and DeMonaco's somewhat unfocused satire, but most also agree that it delivers when it comes to the hardcore violence that fans want to see. And that's the important thing to remember here. This is a movie strictly for the fans. If you haven't enjoyed any of the previous movies, don't even think about seeing "Election Year".

The film also stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Frank Grillo, Mykelti Williamson, Raymond J. Barry, Edwin Hodge, Joseph Julian Soria and Terry Serpico.

the-purge-3-announced-james-demonaco

Considering that "The Purge: Anarchy" surpassed the success of the first film, earning $108 million worldwide, it comes as no surprise that Universal, Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes have begun development on the third film in the franchise which will be written once again by James DeMonaco who will also probably direct it, although that piece of information is not completely certain. The story of that one night of the year in which all crimes are legal and people are allowed to play out their twisted fantasies to their heart's desire has proven to be more successful than even its creator could have imagined. In a statement for Deadline, Demonaco spoke about The Purge phenomenon and the third installment:
"I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise."
Universal and Blumhouse have extended their partnership for the next decade, and the new "The Purge" sequel is expected to be released next year, which means that we have another one of those regular yearly films, like "Paranormal Activity" and "Saw"

box-office-the-purge-anarchy-dawn-planet-apes

The sequel "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" still dominated the weekend at the box-office. The film grossed $36 million in the 3-day timeframe and managed to hold off some decent competition from three new wide releases. The first of these, "The Purge: Anarchy", another sequel, opened in second place with $28 million, a solid debut for the $9 million horror. This is another success for Blumhouse Productions, who have basically patented the micro-budget horror film. While this is still a step back from last year's "The Purge" which opened with $34 million, "Anarchy" has a somewhat better reception than the first film among both critics and moviegoers, which could translate into more attention, and maybe a higher overall gross.

In third place lands Disney's animated sequel "Planes: Fire and Rescue" which grossed $18 million in its first three days. This is less than the first installment's $22 million opening weekend, but the "Planes" franchise is essentially a small budget affair for Disney ($50 million budget), so it won't take long for the studio to earn back its money and turn a profit.

This week's disappointment is surely the R-rated comedy "Sex Tape" starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel, which grossed $15 million. It's a weak debut for the film, which was expected to earn at least $20 million, but it could be explained by the vast number of brutal critical reviews and low scores from moviegoers.
