Weekend Box Office: ZOOTOPIA 2 Conquers Thanksgiving Holiday Frame

Disney dominated the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with the animated sequel "Zootopia 2", which overperformed and crushed the competition both domestically and worldwide with the second biggest Thanksgiving opening ever. Even "Wicked: For Good" took a steeper tumble than expected in its sophomore frame. Meanwhile, the fantasy romantic comedy "Eternity" failed to find its audience.

Weekend Box-Office: WICKED FOR GOOD Scores Record-Breaking $147 Million Debut

The sequel "Wicked: For Good" soared over the weekend with a record-breaking box office debut that was pretty much devastating for all the other contenders, including newcomers "Rental Family" and "Sisu: Road to Revenge", which failed to attract moviegoers. The upcoming Thanksgiving frame will add Disney's "Zootopia 2" into the mix, which will make for a pretty interesting weekend at the box office.

Weekend Box Office: NOW YOU SEE ME Threequel Beats THE RUNNING MAN

Two major necomwers battled it out for box office supremacy over the weekend. In the end, it was the sequel "Now You See Me: Now You Don't" that came out on top, while Edgar Wright's Stephen King adaptation "The Running Man" ended up in second place. Meanwhile, Osgood Perkins' new horror film "Keeper" starring Tatiana Maslany had a disappointing debut.

"The Running Man" is a dystopian action thriller directed by Edgar Wright from a script co-written by Wright and Michael Bacall based on the 1982 novel written by Stephen King under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The novel was previously loosely adapted into the 1987 film of the same name starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The cast features Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Katy O'Brian, Sean Hayes, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin. The film opened in theaters on November 14, 2025.

• Edgar Wright's upcoming Stephen King adaptation "The Running Man" starring Glen Powell. The novel was previously loosely adapted into the 1982 film of the same name starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Colman Domingo Joins Edgar Wright's THE RUNNING MAN Movie

Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo ("Fear the Walking Dead", "Sing Sing", "Rustin") has signed on to star in the new "The Running Man" movie directed by Edgar Wright ("Baby Driver", "Shaun of the Dead"). The film is based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King, which he published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, and was also very loosely adapted into the 1987 film of the same name starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Set in a dystopian America in the year 2025, the story follows Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in a violent reality show called The Running Man to win enough money to help his gravely ill daughter. In the show Richards is chased by hunters sent to kill him. Glen Powell is set to play the lead role and Colman Domingo will play game show's host. The cast also includes Josh Brolin as a villainous TV executive, Karl Glusman, Katy O'Brian and Daniel Ezra.

The release date has beeen set for November 7, 2025. Wright is directing and co-writing the script with Michael Bacall, and will produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will executive produce.

Glen Powell To Star In Edgar Wright's THE RUNNING MAN Reboot

"Anyone But You" and "Top Gun: Maverick" star Glen Powell is set to star in Paramount's upcoming reboot of the classic dystopian thriller "The Running Man". The film will be directed by Edgar Wright ("Baby Driver", "Shaun of the Dead"), who is also on board as a producer alongside Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will executive produce.

The story is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, which was first adapted into the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. King's novel is set in a dystopian America in the year 2025, and it follows Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man in order to win enough money to help his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him.

Powell can next be seen in the upcoming action comedy "Hitman" from Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater, which Powell also co-wrote and co-produced. The film will premiere in theaters May 24, 2024 and be released on Netflix on June 7. He can also be seen this summer in the reboot/sequel "Twisters", which opens on July 19, 2024.
