THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM Cast Announced by Warner Bros at CinemaCon

Lord Of The Rings Hunt For Gollum Cast Announced

Warner Bros has announced several cast members for the upcoming film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" at their CinemaCon presentation. Directed by Andy Serkis, the film will be releaseed in theaters on December 17, 2027.

Serkis will reprise the role Gollum/Smeagol, while Ian McKellen is back as Gandalf, and Elijah Wood returns as Frodo Baggins. Lee Pace also returns as Thranduil from "The Hobbit" movies. Newcomers include Kate Winslet as Marigol, Leo Woodall as Halvard, and Jamie Dornan as Strider, who is later revealed to actually be Aragorn.

The film will chronicle the search for the titular character in the years leading up to "The Fellowship of the Ring". The script is penned by original trilogy screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.

Written between 1937 and 1949, and published between 1954 and 1955, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy started out as a sequel to J.R.R. Tolkien's 1937 children's book "The Hobbit", but eventually grew into the epic literary work we know today. Peter Jackson adapted the books into an amazing cinematic trilogy, with each film released in 2001, 2002 and 2003. The films were massive hits grossing a combined total of over $2.9 billion worldwide, and went on to win a total of 17 Academy Awards. The last installment, "The Return of the King" won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture.

Jackson later adapted "The Hobbit", but stretched out the one book into a new trilogy, with each installment released in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Although much less acclaimed, "The Hobbit" trilogy was also massive at the box office, raking in approximatively $2.93 billion worldwide, each movie grossing close to $1 billion.
