BLAIR WITCH PROJECT Reboot Sets New Director

Blair Witch Project Reboot Sets New Director

The new installment in the "Blair Witch Project" franchise has found its director. Dylan Clark is set to helm the new horror film in his feature debut from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin that the director is currently in the process of rewriting. Returning to the film are original stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, but this time as executive producers. Also on board are the directors of the 1999 film Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick and Gregg Hale who will also serve as executive producers on the reboot.

Atomic Monster's James Wan and Blumhouse's Jason Blum will team up with Roy Lee to produce the film. Plot details have not been revealed, but the new "Blair Witch" film has been described as a reboot that will bring the full mythology and legacy of the franchise to a new generation of storytelling. The reboot was first revealed in 2024 when Lionsgate and Blumhouse announced that a new feature version of "The Blair Witch Project" was in the works through the companies' multi-film deal that sees Blumhouse reimagine Lionsgate's horror classics.

The 1999 film "The Blair Witch Project" was marketed as being based on the true story of three student filmmakers who disappear while making a film about the legend of Blair Witch. It cost only $35,000 to produce and ended up grossing $248 million. Two sequels were released in 2000 and 2016, but each grossed less than $50 million worldwide and were universally panned by both critics and audiences. Lionsgate currently operates a Blair Witch-themed Escape room in Las Vegas called "Escape Blair Witch".

Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath are producing for Divide/Conquer. Steven Schneider is an executive producer. Michael Clear and Judson Scott are executive producing for Atomic Monster, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company. Scott O'Brien and Pavan Kalidindi are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Phil Strina negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.
