24 Jump Street In Works With Jonah Hill Channing Tatum Ice Cube In Talks To Return

"24 Jump Street", the third installment in the R-rated crime comedy franchise, is officially in the works, and it has been reported that stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube are in talks to reprise their roles. Negotiations are expected to take place soon. The new sequel will be directed by Rodney Rothman ("Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse") from a script he co-wrote alongside Hill and Meghan Malloy.

The first two films' helmers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will return to produce alongside Neal H. Moritz. Tatum and Reid Carolin will produce for Free Association, while Hill and Matt Dines produce under their Strong Baby banner.

"21 Jump Street" marked Lord and Miller's live-action directorial debut, and it was a meta reboot of the 1987-1991 TV series of the same name starring Johnny Depp. It grossed $201 million worldwide in 2012. The sequel, "22 Jump Street" was released in 2014 and raked in $331.3 million worldwide. A third installment has been in development at Sony for more than a decade, and was planned as a crossover with the "Men in Black" franchise. Tatum once described it as "the best script that I've ever read for a third movie".

So why is the new sequel titled "24 Jump Street" instead of "23 Jump Street" ? The answer to that question appears in an Instagram post by Moritz, which features a photo of the sequel's script with the following written on the title page: "It took so long to make we had to skip one".
